Bristol Palin strikes back at Keith Olbermann.....
Bristol Palin struck back at Keith Olbermann after the MSNBC host dubbed her the "Worst Person In The World" for her role as a spokesperson for abstinence with the Candies Foundation.

On his Monday show, Olbermann mocked the selection of Palin as a role model for abstinence -- and her ad promoting it with The Situation -- given her status as one of the country's most famous teen mothers.

"That's like saying George Bush kept us safe, except for that 9/11 thing!" he said.

On Thursday, Palin posted a long reply to Olbermann on her Facebook page:

Accusing me of hypocrisy is by now, an old canard. What Mr. Olbermann lacks in originality he makes up for with insincere incredulity. Mr. Olbermann fails to understand that in order to have credibility as a spokesperson, it sometimes takes a person who has made mistakes. Parents warn their children about the mistakes they made so they are not repeated. Former gang members travel to schools to educate teenagers about the risks of gang life. Recovered addicts lecture to others about the risks of alcohol and drug abuse. And yes, a teen mother talks about the benefits of preventing teen pregnancy. I have never claimed to be perfect. If that makes me the "worst person in the world" to Mr. Olbermann, then I must apologize for not being absolutely faultless like he undoubtedly must be. To Mr. Olbermann let me say this: you can attack me all you want. But you will not stop me from getting my message out about teen pregnancy prevention. And one day, if you ever have a daughter, you may change your mind about me.

20. Dearest Bristol--your credibility is desperately calling you for help.
Bristol, you are surrounded day-in, day out, with handlers. I'm betting that you never have to pay the rent, pay the heating bill, give up a night out with friends because you can't find a babysitter, that you never run out of diapers or formula, fret about leaving the sleeping babe in the car seat for just a couple of minutes just to run into 7-11 for milk, etc.

Have you ever faced any of the realities that moms of ANY age face? If so, do tell.

26. It's the Candies aspect that is the problem, to me
Even though we know she didn't write this response, nor do I necessarily believe that SHE even believes in abstinence, I happen to agree that those who have made mistakes are often the best spokespersons. Of course, the whole abstinence campaign in and of itself is rather useless and harmful as it takes away from other approaches to prevent teen pregnancy.

That said, Candies ads are always VERY sexually-provocative. That's the disconnect for me.

Candies and abstinence. Talk about mixed messages.

While she may be thinking some of these thoughts, they are not her own words imho, and to pretend anything else is so ingenious as to put the whole paragraph into question. By that I mean we really don't know what she is thinking on the matter. It may be more along the lines of, "STFU, faggot. At least I proved that I'm not gay"

Calling you a hypocrite is accurate, not misleading.

Now, if on your teen pregnancy prevention crusade, you spoke about the importance of using condoms and other birth control instead of abstinence, that would not make you a hypocrite.

78. It's not so much that they are using a ghost writer
You are correct. PR people do this work all of the time. The problem is, they aren't using a very good one -- and with all of the millions Sarah is raking in, they certainly can afford it.

A good ghostwriter finds the person's voice and writes in a believable style. Sure, it might have a little more polish, but it sounds like something the person might say or write.

The fact that everyone is ripping this and ridiculing it means the ghostwriter failed, big time. It's very amateurish and these people can afford better.

My guess is that they are so uneducated that somebody threw around some fancy words and they were dazzled by the shiny bullshit. Bristol probably said, "I don't know what to say, but make me sound smart."

61. If they are paying someone to write for them..
...they need a new writer.

Blah blah blah (period) blah blah blah (period) blah blah blah (period)

It's not very good, so maybe it really is her and she has a thesaurus.

62. I wish Keith had gone after Candies instead of Bristol...
Edited on Fri Dec-03-10 01:12 PM by Contrary1
They are the real culprits here. I don't blame Bristol for taking advantage of their hypocrisy. None of us know how much financial support, if any, she is getting from Tawd and Lady Blah Blah. If it is true that she is being blamed for her mother's VP loss, I would suspect not much.

Also, I read that Bristol bought a home in California and plans to stay there. Don't know if it is true or not, but putting that many miles between herself and her self-serving mother would be the best decision she could ever make.

it's much more her style.

I am a recovering alcholic and certainly think that I have more credibility on the dangers of drinking too much than a person who has never done so.

The message tends to be a lot more powerful coming from someone who's already experienced it.

This is definitely one of those very few times I ever disagree with KO.

74. So, Bristol's CHILD is a 'mistake'?
And Bristol is going to make a vocation of claiming pregnancies from premarital sex are 'mistakes'?

Wouldn't want to be her kid.

76. The Palins must think that little Tripp will never learn to read.
I wonder how it's going to affect him later when he learns that he was such a big "mistake" that his mom has sworn to be abstinent and is encouraging everyone else to be, too.

79. All the main stream media and the comedians accomplish ...
by attacking the Palins is to cause them to gain strength.

I admit that they are fun to attack and ridicule but they just suck power out of the negative opinions and use it as fertilizer to grow. I wish we would simply ignore them. If we did, they would possibly go away. Had we done this after the Presidential election most people wouldn't even know who Sarah Palin is.

I doubt if she will ever become President but much of her current fame and influence is do to the ridicule she has received.

Americans love underdogs. We need to quit treating her like one. Kicking her around is food for our ego but may create a monster that will haunt us for years to come.

87. A real journalist would ask her the meaning of the word "canard."
I'd love to see that question asked and answered on video.

It's obvious Bristol didn't write any of that. We have seen her writing before, and it looks like what one would expect of a person with an eighth grade level education and no class.
