conditions in Afghanistan BEFORE the POTUS made the surprise trip over...so I cant help but wonder what is actually taking place...

5. Yawp..I live in the mountains, so I know how weather can do unexpected things.
Still seems to me that they would have taken everything into account before making the trip over...

4. The POTUS is in Afghanistan for a few hours
to meet with General Petraeus, visit the troops, and was supposed to meet with Karzai face to face, but they said he was going to have to stay where he landed and just do a video conference instead since the weather was bad.

3. If the winds are strong enough then it will screw up the "corkscrew" approach.

It would suck to have AF1 taken down by a lucky shot. Obama is not on my favorites list right now but his safety is still a priority in my book.

Added: Also with wind storms comes duststorms.

7. I'm not sure what's odd. Bad weather is bad weather. And Presidential trips
(especially to war zones) are big, complicated deals that involve careful logistics--the "surprise" trip doesn't mean it's a "spur of the moment" trip.
