Stockman on CNBC says jobs recovery will be slow. |
|
He broke down the job types and said construction, where we lost a ton of jobs isn't coming back anytime soon. Moreover the strongest growth was government jobs which are now one of the highest paid sectors, and with states in fiscal difficulty this won't be growing soon either and will likely contract.
My take is we need a paradigm shift because we aren't going to be able to recover the jobs we just lost.

1. That's the truth...but too many are trying to pretend that there will a "recovery" |
|
that will take us back to the good ol' days.

2. He's got the 3 talking heads stunned with his 'tell it like it is' segment. |
|
He was well worth listening to.

3. I agree--the construction jobs aren't going to come back, unless |

the housing market radically turns around, and we're overbuilt as it is. I live in a suburb that saw a tremendous housing boom over the span of 15 years, and now it's all but dead...but the contractors are still here, knocking on doors and offering to do small drywall, stucco and sheet metal jobs. It's sad. We need some creative thinking, because the old way is gone.

5. I'm not so sure they're ever coming back. I really hate saying this |
|
but I think we're feeling the toll of all those jobs we're heard about that have consistently been outsourced. You can't keep sendingjobs from the US to India, China, Pakistan, etc. and still expect to have full employment in the US! The construction jobs wil neve come back to the degree they were. The new housing market will level out and so will the pre-owned housing market, but we can't go back the insanity that existed in that market, nor do we want to.
I can only think of one thing that will help improve the job market & thats completely changing our tax code to reward companies who make products made in the US and deter (tax) those who insist on outsourcing, with a bigger reward for those who actually reverse their thinking and bring those jobs back here.

6. what you have to do is stop the importation of cheap labor products... |
|
by outfits like Walmart. Chinese products should all be subject to intense scrutiny. You test shipments for dangerous chemicals and additives. If they exceed safe levels, the entire shipment is banned and has to be shipped back to China. I am sure their are many other consumer friendly policies that would slow them down.
