Holocaust survivors reunite at Hanukkah celebration in West Palm Beach

The Hanukkah celebration at Temple Beth-El Friday afternoon will also be the site of a reunion more than six decades in the making.

West Palm Beach resident Miriam Patipa, a Czech native who survived the Auschwitz concentration camp, will meet fellow Auschwitz survivor Etu Lefkowitz tomorrow for the first time in 65 years.

Both women grew up in the same village and were held in the same barracks during their stay at Auschwitz. Patipa's daughter in law, Bonnie, said Patipa met Lefkowitz's nephew recently at a temple event.

"They started talking and her name came up in the conversation," Bonnie Patipa said. "After they left the camps everyone lost touch, so she never knew what happened to her."

3. K&R - I am sure neither of them ever envisioned Miami Beach in their future...
Happy Hannukah!

5. You bet David
This was the 2nd story I saw of this today. There was a brother and sister who also met for the first time in 65 years. And they are the only 2 survivors from their family of 35. It was also here in South Florida

6. A shame that the corporation that enabled the Holocaust got off scott free,
IBM has never had to face justice for the atrocities it committed in helping the Nazis engineer the Holocaust.

If it hadn't been for IBM, the Holocaust wouldn't have been anywhere as devastating as it was, and WWII would have been over much quicker.

But hey, multi-national corporations have got to make a buck somehow.
