Afghanistan - Just Scratching My Head |
|
Have you ever looked at a situation or issue and said to yourself "how is it possible that the other side cannot see what is clear and present before their eyes?"
We all know that you cannot defeat terrorism...it cannot be completely eliminated militarily.
There is a scene from the Godfather II where Michael Corleone (sp) tells Roth that he witnessed a terrorist attach (in Havana)...that the terrorist was willing to give his life for his cause. Roth asked him what that meant...Michael stated that it means "they can win."
The best one can hope for is marginal control. How can the President state (as he indicated today) that the war in Afghanistan is winnable.
Even 92% of the people there have no idea why we are occupying their country.
This is a mess... Didn't we learn anything from the past?

1. The prez knows full well it's not "winnable" - he's either okay with |
|
...the military industrial congressional complex and America's permanent war economy - or he doesn't know what to do about it.

2. There's nothing to win, and never was. Nor is it about terrorism |
|
it's about maintaining control over dwindling resources, something that would be even more scary to the American public than terrorism is.
Personally, I'd rather they tell the truth, it's the only way to adjust to the inevitable.

with you. It is certainly a huge part of why we are there. And I agree about telling the truth....we can take it.
