DoD Shitting Bricks About The Next Military Budget
unhappycamper note: Since the ‘Pentagon’ (DoD? Gannett?) has ‘requested’ that I only post one paragraph from articles on Army Times, and Airforce Times, To keep in that same (new) tradition, I will also do the same for for articles on Navy Times, Marine Corps Times, stripes.com and military.com.
To read the article in the military's own words, you will need to click the link.

Read all about Fair Use here. It sure is beginning to smell like fascism.

unhappycamper summary of this article: I for one, will be happy if we can ever reduce military spending. Be sure to read the discussion thread at the end of the original article.

In case you forgot, we are spending a trillion dollars a year on military 'things'.

They are all members of the Sustainable Defense Task Force, affiliated with Rep. Barney Frank. The panel published a report recommending almost $1 trillion in defense cuts. Adams was head of the defense section at the Office of Management and Budget under the Clinton administration and has actually done this before.

2. thanks for the post
I love hearing that the military might not be so well financed. Of course, they'll take it out on the service members, cut pay, benefits and whatever else they can. The nasty machines will get all the money they need.

3. Actually Gates's plan is to cut 500 billion from contractors
Though even that is people's jobs.

5. Unfortunately it's people's jobs making gadgets to destroy what others make
I just want to point out, individuals working in the "defense" industry - which I see as more of an "empire support" industry, build gadgets our military uses to go blow up things and kill people elsewhere. It's hard to say anything our military has done since 1990 has really been done to defend the USA - it has been done to defend commercial interests I don't think were worth defending, to defend Israel, to defend the military industrial complex, or (if you want to be naive), to defend Afghan women's right to vote.

The US economy and job market would do much better if the money were re-directed towards a clean energy industry, better mass transport, and infrastructure development (for example a smart electric grid). But this of course doesn't fit the ticket, the people who control our lives happen to like the way we go out and blow up things.

The Secretary of Defense has already outlined a bunch of cuts.
