DU Adopt-a-Billionaire charity drive
Fellow DUers, these are hard and uncertain times for our nation's wealthiest of the wealthy, the billionaires. Faced with the horrifying prospect that Congress may soon allow their Bush tax beaks to expire, these wealthy elites may soon have to make difficult decisions. Therefore, I'm asking all DUers to do their part and adopt a billionaire. Your contributions may determine whether or not your person can afford to purchase that $1.5B luxury yacht, or if they'll have to settle for that $680M luxury yacht instead.

I've decided to adopt a hometown hero, Mr. Rich DeVos. Even though he doesn't actually live here in Orlando, his presence here is widely felt with his NBA team, the Orlando Magic. Just this year, the Magic began playing in the new state-of-the-art Amway Center. This new center cost $480M to build, and the stingy folks of Orlando are only paying for 88% of the cost, leaving Mr. DeVos on the hook for the remaining 12%. To add insult to injury, the Democrats want to take away his tax break. Oh the horror! For that reason, I am adopting Rich DeVos for my Adopt-a-Billionaire campaign.

You know, one of the guys who ordered the Tea Party activists to protest HCR until it was beaten into a shape that he approved of, and then ordered the Republicans to vote against the compromise bill anyway.

Let's adopt this schmuck.

26. I'm thinking of adopting Meg Whitman
The poor dear spent $140M+ of her hard-inherited money(OK, a lot of it came from eBay, which was a matter of being in the right company at the right time) trying to buy herself an office, only to lose to a 70 year old has-been with a reputation as a bit of a weirdo. Where, oh where, will her Christmas caviar come from now? Will she have to serve domestic champagne for New Years? The horror, the horror!

28. You could adopt 50% of the congress. They're rich, max is over $300 Million in wealth!
The "poorest" Senator: over $600,000. I wouldn't call that poor, would you?

The Senate’s famed “millionaires club” is becoming a little crowded.

According to a Roll Call analysis of Senate financial disclosure forms filed in 2010, more than half of the chamber’s membership, 54 lawmakers, reported a minimum net worth of more than $1 million. Another four Senators fell short of that mark by less than $100,000.

In addition, more than half of the Senate’s membership saw their individual fortunes grow in 2009, the period covered by their most recent disclosure reports.

Those increases are reflected in the chamber’s combined minimum wealth, which increased to about $680 million in 2009, or more than 4 percent higher than the previous year.

37. Unfortunately he's right, Dems right up there with 'em (Kerry at $163 mn)
The thing that gets me is that they don't have to divest themselves or recuse themselves from legislation that could greatly benefit them financially. No wonder they say the best path to wealth is to get into government. Your stock picks can't lose with that system!

Hey, Senator, what was that company you're voting on next month? Thanks, I'll just buy a few thousand shares before the contract is announced...

This plucky little scrapper wants to bring the America's Cup to the Bay Area and in return all he wants is control of waterfront real estate rent-free! Also, his yacht is too small and he had problems selling his house. Evidently the demand for replicas of Japanese palaces went down in the dot-com bust.
