Assange would have more credibility if his ego was just a TAD smaller...
"Assange says that Wikileaks has released more classified documents than the rest of the world press combined: "That's not something I say as a way of saying how successful we are – rather, that shows you the parlous state of the rest of the media. How is it that a team of five people has managed to release to the public more suppressed information, at that level, than the rest of the world press combined? It's disgraceful."

Regardless of what he thinks, it's the press's job to report the news, not make it. Holding everyone else to his own standard is about as egotistical an attitude as I can imagine.

2. The bigger the pile - I do not care about the size but the quality and importance
Watergate was not a massive pile of papers but a real investigation of a real crime

Faulting him for his ego is stupid.

Was it "stupid" to be concerned about that one too?

19. George Bush's ego was the least of his problems
Honestly there is absolutely no comparison between Assange and Bush, Bush put out false intelligence to start an illegal war Assange put out real intelligence to stop an illegal war.

4. Really?

I agree with what he said wholeheartedly here. The press -- especially the US press -- has an appallingly dismal record when it comes to investigative journalism since the late 90's. It hasn't functioned as a free press for a while now, as profits began to trump reporting facts and the corporate media's agenda became the focus.

9. Did you read the Guardian Q&A?
It's even more revealing of his mind-set.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/blog/2010/dec/03/julian-assange-wikileaks

I coauthored my first nonfiction book by the time I was 25. I have been involved in nonfiction documentaries, newspapers, TV and internet (sic) since that time. However, it is not necessary to debate whether I am a journalist, or how our people mysteriously are alleged to cease to be journalists when they start writing for our organisaiton (sic).

"...it is not necessary to debate whether I am a journalist." Oh, just because he says so. Right. :sarcasm:

thought it would take two years instead of four to be recognised by others as having this important role, so we are still a little behind schedule and have much more work to do.

Right. No ego there, totally focused on the good of humanity. :sarcasm:

10. what is this 'news' that you claim 'the press' is supposed to report?
And how is this 'news' different than what wikileaks is reporting on?

Assange's point is not about how 'great he is', it is about how the news media organizations have failed to do what they ought to be doing - keeping the denizens of this planet informed about what is actually going on.

If it is the job of the media to simply repeat the official story - 'not make news' in your terms - then we really don't need them for anything other than their glitz and entertainment value. Just have the False Noise Hot Babes read the Official Daily Story and be done with it.

26. We're supposed to do like you are and make Julian Assange the issue and ignore the devastating news
that the latest batch of cables have disclosed.

So you're doing exactly what our corporate media intends you to do. Keep up the good work. Help them out by making Julian Assange and his odd hair color and statements from undisclosed locations and seeming cloak and dagger drama the issue.

Let's discuss what a creep Julian is and what should be done to him.

Not what our government and others have been doing behind the scenes.

27. Exactly...
Even if Julian Assange were not credible it would not matter, the issue is not Assange the issue is the information he has released. Even Assange's worst enemies admit the material he released is authentic.

That will help make the character assasination campaign more effective.

Let's not get caught up in or let ourselves become unwitting tools in that campaign.
