The wording on the "Bush tax cut" is a spin in itself! And it's not helping!
The media (all media!) drives me crazy with the way they
present this issue to the public!

Why do they keep on saying that the Democrats want to extend
the Bush tax cuts ONLY to people making less than $250,000 a
year, but the Republicans want those tax cuts extended to
EVERYONE???

This is such a spin! And everyone is buying it!

I believe it would be more accurate (and easier for everyone
to understand the truth!) if it had been worded this way:
Democrats want to extend the Bush tax cuts on the first
$250,000 of income TO EVERYONE, but want to help bring the
deficit down by letting those tax cuts on income ABOVE
$250,000 a year expire at the end of December.
The Republicans prefer to let the Bush tax cuts be eliminated
for EVERYONE, rather than cut them ONLY for income over
$250,000 a year!

Don't you think this would give a better and more accurate
story????

1. Yeah
the whole "Bush Tax Cuts" meme is starting to drive me crazy too and the Democrats have been using it ad nauseum as well. Democrats should reframe them as the Democratic Tax Cuts or the Obama Tax Cuts since whatever gets passed (if anything) won't have Bush's imprint on them. The "Bush Tax Cuts" expire after 12/31/10. Anything that takes effect 1/1/11 should not have Bush's name attached to it at all.

2. Precisely. It's been real shoddy work on the part of the media, from what I've seen.

4. there was a graph that showed how each income bracket benefitted from the upt to 250k tax cut.
Those making 250K and above benefit the most from even that tax break taking away 5000+ per year.

The purposeful assistance of the media in this ignorance is truly evil.

6. may be more accurate, but accuracy is not the goal of the media. it is to spin the story to fit
their meme. they want tax cuts for themselves. so of course they are going to sell it as if it is a tax increase if they let them expire or something. and they are going to try to sell it as if the dems are being mean to people who make more money.
