Operation One-Term: Obama Reaches Bipartisan Agreement To Serve Only Four Years

Operation One-Term: Obama Reaches Bipartisan Agreement To Serve Only Four Years
By: Eli
December 3, 2010

A little over a month ago, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell declared that “the single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.” A little over two weeks ago, a pair of nominally Democratic hacks explained that Obama would be much more effective over the next two years if he immediately declared that he would not seek a second term.

Well, Obama may not have come out and explicitly announced that he won’t try to get re-elected, but he has clearly signaled his intent to grant their wish. I don’t think I have ever seen a president as determined to avoid another four years as Barack Obama. Sorry, White House – he’s just not that into you.

If this year’s Democratic campaign message was “We suck less,” 2012′s will be “We may suck, but at least we’re not crazy.” Not exactly an improvement, but it should definitely free Obama up to run for mayor of Chicago.

3. Would like to think this is true, but...
I doubt the majority of Democrats in our nation are even paying attention beyond the ideology of the party, and the massive news spin that blinds people to facts.

9. Is it really massive news spin, though, or are people just choosing
to ignore the facts?

I can't decide, I really can't.

10. How about someone who is at least moderately liberal/progressive?

And not just during the period he/she is running as a candidate for President.

14. Would you care to provide an example of such a person who
is capable of winning a Presidential election? Please. Failing that, it's Hobson's Choice. Obama/Biden or McCain/Palin. I know what my choice was, and what it will be in 2012, unless you can come up with the name of a candidate who can win and who meets your specifications.

I'll wait...

some FDL writer with one name. This is absolute bullshit. Some people may wish that President Obama only had one term, but to suggest that he's seriously considering not running is utter crap. He has not "signaled his intent" not to seek a second term. Nor do I expect that he will decide at any time not to do so. Who the hell is this random blogger, anyhow. Does he have a real name? I checked his other blog. He's just another anonymous random blogger. There is a surfeit of them on the Web. Not everything that is written is worthy of posting here.

FDL posts some of the most random bullshit I've ever seen on the Internet. This is one such pile of that.

If it were me, I'd be very embarrassed to post this nonsense. It's not me, though.

Unrecommended.

13. Well, that's true. Jane has lots of random bloggers on her site.
It's a bottomless well of useless, anti-Obama commentary. There's always a great selection to pick from if you want to post something negative about President Obama. Feh!

16. Agreed. I suspect many of them post at both FDL and FR. I don't consider FDL any
more of a credible source than I do FR. Good for a laugh once in a while but that's about it.

Seems to me that by caving on extending the tax cuts to the rich, which is going to result in $700 billion in lost tax revenue over the next 10 years without stimulating the economy or creating any new jobs (which is what happened during the past 10 years), Obama has admitted that the budget deficit is not a serious problem and austerity measures aren’t necessary.

If he were to claim otherwise, he would be admitting in effect to massive irresponsibility and criminal incompetence placing the nation’s economy at serious risk of collapse and insolvency. Would that not constitute an impeachable offense or, at the very least politically disqualify him from serving a second term?

We already know that the deficit is not a serious problem because the government issues its own fiat currency and it can borrow money by selling Treasury bonds. Obama has just confirmed that he understands that even though I do not expect that he will ever admit it.

Therefore, to the extent we needed it, we now have confirmation that Obama’s deficit commission austerity idea was just a cover to destroy social security.

As a matter of principle, neoliberals can’t abide any form of safety net. To their way of thinking, unemployment compensation and social security are bad because people are being paid not to work and that financial compensation makes them less desperate for work and harder to control. Therefore, they have a religious-like fervor to destroy them and they are determined not to stop until they succeed.

Putting the lie to the bullshit austerity excuse by extending the taxcuts for the rich now exposes the neoliberals for what they truly are attempting to accomplish.

They are concerned about only one thing: Making as much money as possible. Telling any lie and committing any act to serve that end is justifiable and proper. The criminal law does not apply to them because to their way of thinking, they are, after all, just free marketeers trying to make money.

Obama outdid himself on this one.

This explains, better than anything I've seen, why the base is rapidly abandoning Obama now.
