Julian Assange isn't charged with rape, but with "Sex by Surprise"

"Sex by Surprise" means having sex without a condom. It's a crime in Sweden only, punishable by a fine.
Julian Assange had sex with a broken condom and without a condom. When the women found out, they demanded a STD-test. He refused. They went to the police.

His behavior was wrong, but calling this rape, is totally overblown.

2. If it's just a fine....
why keep saying it's rape? Why the need for rendition?

5. Rendition is its own reward.
No matter where in the world, CIA ignores the law. Even its own Constitution.

10. and Mr.Assange could pay that easily, but he hasn't.
We aren't the judges and jury on this issue, and we shouldn't be-

That applies to all 'sides'.

I don't hold anyone guilty, nor can I say anyone is innocent. No one except the individuals involved can do that honestly.

I think that the OP's point that continuing to call the incident "rape" is being false and mis-leading is important point to be made.

It's too bad that can't stand on it's own merit.

6. Oh yes. We seem to have no problem making laws
to suppress information and the general populace it seems, but can't find the way to extending unemployment benefits. McConnell is a putrid piece of work.

8. How can a woman not know if her partner is wearing a condom? But
more importantly, what happens to him if he returns to Sweden?

14. flimsy legal argument at best
either there was consensual sex or there was not consensual sex. The (broken) condom issue would seem to implicate the female partner as much as the male, if it was indeed consensual. Why did the female agree to have sex without the condom? But if it was rape, why was it not immediately reported as such?

These charges are politically motivated, it's clear about that.
