|

1. Which would be highly relevant, if the Republicans gave a fuck about public opinion. |
|
And yet, the public never calls them on it.

2. I think Republicans and anti-gay Democrats are assuming that people don't care |

That sure, 69% of people might tell a pollster on the telephone that they're for gays in the military, but they are not likely to base their votes on that issue. That such people care much more about the wars overseas, the economy and health care.
Again, that's their logic.

6. Actually, they don't care about public opinion on the economy or healthcare either. |
|
And again, the public doesn't seem to punish them for it.

The criticism is based on his strategy / lack of agressiveness.

7. "Without a doubt"? On the contrary, if you listen to DUers... |
|
...they'll tell you Obama's a homophobe, a bigot, hates gay people, and is the exact equivalent of a segregationist. :eyes:

...gets a free pass. "strategy / lack of agressiveness" is just another way of blaming President Obama for the actions of Republicans in opposing gay and lesbian rights. Yes, we have been conditioned by the media to blame President Obama for the actions of Republicans even when he agrees with us.
What about John McCain who flipped flopped on the issue? No, we have been conditioned to think that it is okay for Republicans to flip flop and lie.
Taste the corporate narrative!

10. I think frustration causes some to turn on those they shouldn't |
|
The repeal of DADT has been too long in coming, and some are starting to turn on the guy most important in getting it repealed.

slightly off-topic, but relevant, nevertheless.
This country really doesn't give a shit about it's people in the military... as witnessed by the fact that we send them into shitholes to live like animals, and perhaps die or be maimed, for the crassest reasons... why does this country give a shit about their opinions about whether gays can serve in the military?
My Gunny told me that I needed an opinion, the Corps would tell me what my opinion was.
Pres Obama and everybody else wants Congress to do something, but as CinC, Pres. Obama can say STFU and serve with anybody we tell you to. Hell, Gates can do it, too. They call it chain of command. STFU is the true First General Order.
That said, I think DADT is a shiny object dangled in front of us to keep us from getting all twitchy about the mortgage mess, the Wikileaks, the $Trillions of bailout for Capitalism, the banks sliding down the banister/razor blade, the rich getting super-rich, etc...
