President Obama is 48% to 43% at Gallup Today, That's a Plus 5
Edited on Sun Dec-05-10 06:09 PM by louis c
I know, the rolling averages don't mean much, and they fluctuate quite a bit. But in this political atmosphere when so many pundits predict such political doom for President Obama, some small glimmer of good news should be looked at. This is a snap-shot and could move dramatically downward as Gallup's numbers can tend to be volatile, but on Sunday, December 5 2010, our President stands at a plus 5 in Gallup's rankings. Today's numbers are Obama's best since May 11, 2010.

1. I wonder if this bump is due to the Afghanistan trip or maybe even
the democrats in the house voting against the tax cuts for the wealthiest...

7. If he wasn't acting so hostile to his base, he'd be at 55%-60% right now
A good chunk of those disapprovers in the poll are lefties who Obama could earn back. The teabag crowd will never be appeased no matter how hard he tries to get them to like him.

It's like the nerdy high school boy who persists with failed attempts to get the bitchy, beautiful and popular Homecoming Queen to go out with him. But in the process he alienates all of his other nerd friends.

23. I agree with you
A lot of his approval is an already buyer's remorse for the 2010 election. The Republicans are not the party of the middle class. If Obama was more like FDR and took on the banks, the corporations and Wall Street, he's be in the high 50's. Instead, all he wants to do is compromise. The Republican idea of compromise is "do it our way".

8. How much of the negative 43% is from the left?
Polls can easily be misinterpreted. Most people would think the 43% represents those who think Obama is too liberal, but I'll bet a fair chunk of that comes from those disappointed with Obama's failure to stand up for liberal and progressive policies.

12. I don't buy that.
I think it's worth maybe 1-2% at best.

While a majority favor repeal for most folks this issue is way down their laundry list of issue priorities.

20. I agree
It will get a few extra percentage points but not up to 60%. The problem is too many live in a bubble and assume that their pet issue is everyone's most important concern.

Now if unemployment drops to 8%, then he might reach 60%.

Democrats and Republicans. Obama has proven that he is sincerely reaching out for compromise and the Republicans have exposed themselves as hypocrites willing to destroy the country to line their own pockets.

Time for Senator Reid to allow a filibuster.

17. I watched the evening news on brighthouse channel 13
just a bit ago and the slant was all right wing. "Regular" people were interviewed and they went on about how it would all trickle down and lift everyone up, republican politicians were shown saying they wanted tax cuts for "ALL americans" during this downturn, then just a short shot of Dems giving a statement. It was depressing and I can't even summon up any anger these days toward the media I am so tired of it all.

14. That's because some of the Rep's are happy with his "giving in" to the new Reps Congress!
it's stupid, but it's true!

The Reps are enjoying seeing President Obama "brought down a couple of notches!" They think he is finally "understanding his place" in this world. . .and that is "second and inferior" to the Republican politicians!

I HATE IT!
