Other lyrics that are hitting me hard right now
Am I reading too much into them?
Am I crazy? (Too) paranoid? :tinfoilhat:

Damn, I feel I may be going in those directions -- nothing is making sense, just as if the world has been following orders from the album these two sets of lyrics came from:
Stop Making Sense
Talking Heads/David Byrne, 1984

--Life During Wartime--

Heard of a van that is loaded with weapons
packed up and ready to go
Heard of some gravesites, out by the highway
a place where nobody knows
The sound of gunfire, off in the distance
I'm getting used to it now
Lived in a brownstone, lived in the ghetto
I've lived all over this town

This ain't no party, this ain't no disco
this ain't no fooling around
No time for dancing, or lovey dovey
I ain't got time for that now

Transmit the message, to the receiver
hope for an answer some day
I got three passports, couple of visas
don't even know my real name
High on a hillside, trucks are loading
everything's ready to roll
I sleep in the daytime, I work in the nightime
I might not ever get home

This ain't no party, this ain't no disco
this ain't no fooling around
This ain't no mudd club, or C. B. G. B.
I ain't got time for that now

Heard about Houston? Heard about Detroit?
Heard about Pittsburgh, PA?
You oughta know not to stand by the window
somebody might see you up there
I got some groceries, some peanut butter
to last a couple of days
But I ain't got no speakers
ain't got no headphones
ain't got no records to play

Why stay in college? Why go to night school?
Gonna be different this time?
Can't write a letter, can't send a postcard
I can't write nothing at all
This ain't no party, this ain't no disco
this ain't no fooling around
I'd love you hold you, I'd like to kiss you
I ain't got no time for that now

Trouble in transit, got through the roadblock
we blended in with the crowd
We got computers, we're tapping phone lines
I know that that ain't allowed ***
We dress like students, we dress like housewives
or in a suit and a tie
I changed my hairstyle so many times now
don't know what I look like!
You make me shiver, I feel so tender
we make a pretty good team
Don't get exhausted, I'll do some driving
you ought to get you some sleep
Get you instructions, follow directions
then you should change your address
Maybe tomorrow, maybe the next day
whatever you think is best
Burned all my notebooks, what good are notebooks?
They won't help me survive
My chest is aching, burns like a furnace
the burning keeps me alive
Try to stay healthy, physical fitness
don't want to catch no disease
Try to be careful, don't take no chances
you better watch what you say

***my note: Well, yes, it is allowed now
along with many other formerly unthinkable, at least in a Democracy, principles. :(

--What a Day That Was--

Well, I'm dressed up so nice
An' I'm doin' my best
An' I'm startin' over..
I'm startin' over in another place

Lemme tell you a story
Big chief with a golden crown
He's got rings on his fingers
And then he walks up, up to the throne

He's makin' shapes with his hands
An' don't choo dare sit back
Now don't choo dare sit down
And don't choo dare speak up!

And on the first day, we had everything we could stand
Ooh who could've asked for more?
And on the second day, there was nothing else left to do
Ooh what a day that was.

There are 50,000 beggars
Roaming in the streets
They have lost all their possessions
They have nothing left to eat

Down come a bolt of lightning
Start an electrical storm
Starts a chain reaction
Go pull a fire alarm

I'm dreaming of a city
It was my own invention
I put the wheels in motion
A time for big decisions

And on the first day, we had everything we could stand
Ooh and then we let it fall
And on the second day, there was nothing else at all
Ooh what a day that was.

Oh a day that was
Ooh that's the way it goes
There's a million ways- to get things done
There's a million ways- to make things work out.

Well I'm going right through
And the light came down
Well they're roundin' 'em up
from all over town

They're movin' forward and backwards
They're movin' backwards and front
And they're enjoying themselves
Moving in ev'ry direction

And if you feel like you're in a whirlpool
You feel like going home
You feel like talking to someone
Who know the difference between right and wrong

And on the first day, we had everything we could stand
Ooh and then we let it fall
And on the second day, there was nothing else left at all
Ooh what a day that was.
(We're go(in') boom boom boom That's the way we live
And in a great big room and That's the way we live.) x3

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXJgt8rLMC4 Live version, movie.

*my note: Hell of a lot more than just 50,000 beggars, they with no possessions and nothing to eat, in the streets of this richest, most powerful nation in the world. And it seems it's only going to get worse.
But not for the corporations -- they're too big to fail -- our citizens can go eat $***

-----not room for enough  emoticons for this.

Well, I'll try to get in a better mood by focusing on some positives: Gawd, I just love David Byrne's stage presence -- his music is beyond mere Love. In the first video one has to wonder where his bones went :wow:
Just a great fugging movie, greater fugging album!

Saw him on.... Letterman I think (& I NEVER watch that unfunny guy, 'cept that one time)... Byrne's unique choreography is still extant, amazing and as vibrant as ever; went right out & bought his new album

(LOL Is saying 'album' instead of 'CD' --which I understand may also be going the way of the Dodo-- showing my age? : )

1. The Talking Heads music is timeless...sonic brilliance.
The rhythms of "Remain in Light", "Fear of Music", and the wonderful "The Name of This Band..." especially...still torch my soul. They coupled stylish NY punk attitude with rich intricate melodies and high octane musicianship. Love those guys.

3. What do you think about
Art of Noise?

I've been trying to find my (old) CDs but they seem to have disappeared --along with a lot of stuff-- after my last move.

Moments In Love
, to me, is one of the most beautiful songs eva.
Ranks right up there with Orff's Carmina Burana, IMO.

Yes, I love those songs too -- but I can't seem to find THOSE CD's either. IIRC none of them ever got a lot, if any, airplay -- but I could be wrong;
it's happened before :>
However at least 2 of those songs were, again IIRC, in Talking Heads' early days --late 70's/early 80's-- and "The Name of This Band..." was fairly early too, I believe.
Nice to find another Talking-Headophile :hi:

More than half of my Mozart, Pete Townshend, Joan Armatrading, King Crimson and Thomas Dolby
--I had (many, many of the first (was hoping one day to finally build to his entire library of work) & the complete discographies of the last 4 artists--
disappeared too along with various other, lesser (IMHO of course, but still important to me) CD's. Seems like most I buy now is replacing things I once had :(

Oh well, the movers must have had excellent taste :D

2. I read a book by David Byrne once about bicycling. I think it was called "bicycle diaries".

He's a smart man, with a cutting wit. You can tell he's studied urban planning and he examines some of the great cities of the world from a bicyclist's perspective.

4. I ran across one from that same time
Different band but...

Devo: Beautiful World

It's a beautiful world we live in,
A sweet romantic place,
Beautiful people everywhere,
The way they show they care
Makes me want to say,

(Chorus)
It's a beautiful world
It's a beautiful world
It's a beautiful world

For you
For you
For you

It's a wonderful time to be here,
It's nice to be alive,
Wonderful people everywhere,
The way they comb their hair
Makes me want to say,

It's a wonderful place
It's a wonderful place
It's a wonderful place

For you
For you
For you

Hey, tell me what I say,
Boy 'n' girl with the new clothes on,
You can shake it to me all night long,
Hey, Hey!

It's a beautiful world we live in,
A sweet romantic place,
Beautiful people everywhere,
The way they show they care
Makes me want to say,

It's a beautiful world
It's a beautiful world
It's a beautiful world

For you
For you
For you

It's not for me!

It's a beautiful world
For you
It's a beautiful world
For you
It's a beautiful world
For you
It's a beautiful world
Not me.

5. Muse and Dead Kennedys Together again
United States of Eurasia by Muse

You and me are the same
we don't know or care whose to blame
But we know that whoever holds the reins
Nothing will change our cause has gone insane

And these wars they can't be won
And these wars they can't be won
And do you want them to go on, on and on?
Why split these states when there can be only one?

And must we do as we're told?
And must we do as we're told?

instrumental break

You and me fall in line
To be punished for unproven crimes
And we know there is no one we can trust
Our ancient heroes they are turning to dust

And these wars they can never be won
Does anyone know or care how they begun?
They just promise to go on, and on and on
But soon we will see there can only be one

United States, United States of
Eurasia, sia, sia, sia!
Eurasia, sia, sia, sia!
Eurasia, sia, sia, sia!

Kill the Poor, by The Dead Kennedys

"Kill The Poor"

Efficiency and progress is ours once more
Now that we have the Neutron bomb
It's nice and quick and clean and gets things done
Away with excess enemy
But no less value to property
No sense in war but perfect sense at home:

The sun beams down on a brand new day
No more welfare tax to pay
Unsightly slums gone up in flashing light
Jobless millions whisked away
At last we have more room to play
All systems go to kill the poor tonight

Gonna
Kill kill kill kill Kill the poor:Tonight

Behold the sparkle of champagne
The crime rate's gone
Feel free again
O' life's a dream with you, Miss Lily White
Jane Fonda on the screen today
Convinced the liberals it's okay
So let's get dressed and dance away the night

While they:
Kill kill kill kill Kill the poor:Tonight

Peace,
Tex Shelters
