More propaganda from USA TODAY; Bush's tax cuts: How did they affect you?
Susan Yetter recalls vividly the day in March 2001 when President George W. Bush came to Western Michigan University and declared that the U.S. budget surplus "is the people's money, and we ought to trust them with their own money."
Less than three months later, on June 7, 2001, Bush signed into law a 10-year, $1.6 trillion package of tax cuts making good on that promise. It buoyed businesses and consumers at the government's expense, creating private investment and jobs but contributing to future budget deficits.

Here in southwest Michigan, the tax cuts acted as a life preserver for an area beset with business flight and job loss. Companies such as Upjohn pharmaceuticals and General Motors, along with six paper mills, fled town at the end of the past century. But in the past seven years, about 40 start-ups have sprouted.

"I just don't think they would have existed otherwise," says Ron Kitchens, chief executive officer of Southwest Michigan First, the local economic development agency.

For nearly a decade, the Bush tax cuts — including a second, $350 billion dose in 2003 — have fueled debate in Washington about the proper role of government. Should it give money back to taxpayers at all income levels to spur economic growth, at the risk of reducing programs serving the poor and middle class? Should it deny revenue to a government that's nearly $14 trillion in debt? Should it reward today's taxpayers at the possible expense of future generations?

1. As someone earning under 20,000 a year I noticed an increase around

2004 or 2005 in my federal taxes and I verified that by looking at statements. It wasn't until Obama got in that they went back to where they were around 2001. That said Bush did send out some rebates and they didn't effect the amount I get back at tax time as I have more taken out than need be.

3. I heard a Fox radio news report just a couple hours ago. Here
is their spin, President Obama is said to be close to a compromise with the Republicans on extending the Bush tax cuts. Then they went on to explain if the tax cuts aren't extended a person making $20000 a year will have their taxes raised by $800 and a couple with two children making $40000 a year will have to pay another $2500. They never made any mention of the taxes on the rich, they made it sound like the Democrats were trying to raise the taxes on people under making under $250000. So there you go, Obama caves and the media spins it to make it look like the Republicans saved you from a tax increase. Wouldn't it have been better to call these assholes bluff and make them fight for it. I don't see how they could ever get their tax cut extension if the Democrats grew a spine. The Democrats had a majority and couldn't break a filibuster to pass anything. Even with the new senate if the Democrats filibustered a tax cut it couldn't pass. Then it would show the public the Republicans are only interested in the rich. This way we loose double, they make it look like the Republicans saved them from a tax increase and it makes the President look weak and spineless.

4. 26% of America is for the extensions, why are we caving?
The MSM controls the minds of the sheep like never before....jobs aren't important, tax cuts for the mega-rich are.

5. When they increased the standard deduction
for a married couple filing jointly to equal twice the standard deduction for a single person, they enabled spouse and I to marry without a tax penalty. So we did.
