Boycotts on DU, don't work
A LOT of us boycott Walmart, there are MORE than enough who shop there to offset any impact the few of us may cause. Boycott Olive Garden, yeah that's going to make a difference. I ask people to boycott the foreign car makers, fat chance on Union supporting DU. Boycott Amazon, for what, being pressured by our Government to shut down Wikileaks?

Do you folks really think they wanted to shut off Wikileaks?

Give me a break it's not worth the effort. Oh and I'm buying some PC memory in a few minutes from them to at least show my support.

26. He and the NFL are on my boycott list...
If the NFL does the right thing, I'll consider taking them off the list. Vick, however, will never leave said list. Never.

Bless the beasts and the children.

3. Nonetheless, I choose where I shop.
Giving up in advance is not what I was taught. But then, I come from union people.

4. +10
Same here. I choose who I benefit from my union labor earned paycheck. No offense intended to the OP, but, if everyone thought the way you do I wonder where we'd be today. I hate to imagine.

5. Did you misunderstand what I wrote?
Edited on Mon Dec-06-10 03:51 PM by DainBramaged
One, I'm UAW. Two, I boycott WalMart because of unfair labor practices. Three I wouldn't own a japanese or Korean car if you gave me one. Fourth, my OP PLAINLY states boycotts don't work on DU, so was that difficult? WELL?????

17. The OP only had snark for me when I asked...
Him to define "work" after so many of us told him how we feel about it. I don't get how anyone can be so shallow.

7. People always have their favorite places to shop, on-the-other-hand
people also have their favorite places to avoid. When somebody says I will/will not shop at so and so for whatever reason, that is called, 'word of mouth.' The best advertisements come from, 'word of mouth', that is marketing 101! Saying (in effect) people voicing their shopping habits and the reason why does not make sense, it does make a difference, a major difference.

Wal Mart and Olive Garden are huge and their advertising campaigns are just as big. The Channel Captains have been taken down, Exxon had to leave the California market after the Valdez incident. Arco (BP) is not fairing well if look to see that their prices are still $0.10 to $0.20 (give or take) per gallon less than the other majors. Wal Mart is doing a major ad campaign in Southern California about how good they are to their employees. There are many more. Please reconsider your statement about how much public perceptions affect corporate bottom line!!!

9. (sigh) What is the title of my thread? Boycotts on DU, don't work
It is amazing how people read whatever they like into what somebody wrote.

Marketing 102, piss off 1 person, and their relatives and ten friends each will never shop at you again.

Unless you belong to DU.

I'm not changing anything, you should re-write your plea for ME to write what you want me to write.

11. Good God... seems you are the one who doesn't understand...
People are clearly showing you how boycotts work for THEM. If you want a finer point, you should define your take on the word "work" in this case.

8. I feel better, and can sleep at night
standing on my own values, voting with my wallet. It's principle. I welcome those to join me. But will not affect my decision to boycott. I can stand alone if need be.

10. Define "work"
They work for me because I can live with myself, I can look myself in the face in the mirror, and I know my money is going to support those I choose to support.

That said, they work for me. They work wonderfully. Perfectly even.
