On his radio show today, Glenn Beck was lamenting the fact that no media outlets (Fox News included!) were covering the growing scourge of Communists and Socialists preaching a violent overthrow here in America. He even proposed that 0.5% of Americans may be violent radicals. Of course, that figure isn't something you're likely to hear about since it was handily overshadowed by another stat the host used: Beck guessed that 10% of Muslims are terrorists. You hear that sound? That's 100% of The View hosts angrily leaving the room. Yeah, even Hasselbeck.

We're going to give Beck the benefit of the doubt and assume this was just an example of unwisely rattling off a made-up figure and that he doesn't actually think there are 150,000,000 Muslim terrorists running around. I mean, can you imagine how crowded those caves would be? Seriously though, it's blanket quotes like this that just make people seem foolish. 10% may not seem like a lot in most cases but, when you're talking about the second largest religion in the world

11. Please remember that Beck is empowered...

...and gets his talking points from the necon, corporatist elites who
have hijacked our government. Beck was invited to very higher up meetings
in the Republican party. These meetings were attended by the Koch Brothers,
among others. The upper eschelons dictate the memes Beck is to spread.

Seems to me this latest nonsense from Beck is setting up two things: 1.) The
justification of mistreating and discriminating against all Muslims and
getting Americans to objectify them and view them as horrible people. 2. The
justification of treating those on the American left with the same disdain and
objectification. Beck states that .5 percent of Americans are violent
radicals. This is McCarthyism. Some American are violent radicals, according
to Beck, and of course he pits them all on the left. Therefore, Beck and
his corporatist, democracy-destroyers are attempting to make it ok to
hate and mistreat those on the left. By making people fear the left in general--
by suggesting that a small percentage are violent radicals--the entire left
wing gets painted in a bad light and objectified.

This is a first step in making it ok to incarcerate people (Muslims, liberals, Progressives)
for their views and beliefs.

First, you have to make people afraid of these groups. Then you villify them and pain
them as killers and radicals. Then, suddenly, no one care when they're carted away,
illegally detained, disappeared or treated even worse.

Beck and his thug cohorts are on a dangerous path. But they know that.
