The Obama shifting tide...
Edited on Mon Dec-06-10 04:53 PM by Javaman
So here we are. Where is "that" exactly?

Losing hope.

It appears as if everyone is now calling the president a "caver".

There are people who champion all the things that he has done.

There are people who champion all the things he hasn't done.

Who is right?

Both are.

But at the end of the day, when it comes down to we the people or they the corporations, whom does Obama seem to be siding with?

Obama said himself, "I’d rather be a really good one-term president than a mediocre two-term president".

After eight years of a moron*, I'll take mediocre any day then a corporate glad hander.

Honestly, if he's okay with being a one term president, then what has he got to lose by standing up to the republicans? Nothing. Nothing at all.

Obama had a dynamic first year, but then things started to slide.

And where are we now?

Still in both Iraq and Afghanistan, Guantanamo Bay still alive and kicking, no prosecution for any of the previous administrations war crimes (now it's found out that Obama leaned on Spain to cut off their investigation), the unemployment figures are still terrible, unemployment insurance has just been cut off and now we are looking at the middle class keeps their tax break a the expense of the rich keeping theirs, thus driving up the deficit that much more, or nothing. Nice choice, huh? Bend over and say ahh for the rich or bend over.

Now, many people will point out all his finer points. And he had quite a few, but if the country is still hemorrhaging jobs and casting people out with no unemployment, however, Obama could walk on water, but it still won't put food on the table or pay the bills.

It seems to me that he has gotten so caught up in the Washington D.C. game of charades, he has completely forgotten what the topic was.

Being president is a horribly tough job. The stresses of the job are monumental. But the one thing I have noticed though out my 47 years on this planet is this: the job only gets harder the less you listen tho the people.

There is an old saying: you can't shit the shitter. Meaning, when we see bullshit, we will call you on it.

Mr. President, I voted for you. I'm now calling you on your bullshit. If you don't, you won't be a good one term president, you will be a mediocre one term president.

2. Count me out of the whole thing....
I'm done. If he were truly o.k. with being a good one term president rather than a mediocre two term one he'd be swinging for the fences at every possible opportunity. He'd be calling bullshit after bullshit on what is going on in the senate. He'd fight for it all.

Hell maybe that really was his intention at first. But then he just got so caught up in the DC cocktail circuit/cable news talking head mentality and mindset that he's now addicted to it all and has really internalized it.

Either way, unless things turn around I'm done. Count me out of all the bullshit. I'll probably still vote and pathetically enough I'll probably still vote for dems. But my days of fighting and campaigning and donating and calling and convincing and educating people are done. I'm no longer wasting my time.

3. Take this last period before complete collapse to prepare.
Prepare and get ready for the horror, as we are all on our own. The Democrats have failed us. They were our last hope.
This country is about to be in a world of shit in two years.

6. I see these kinds of posts everyday here on DU...
and no one ever says what SPECIFICALLY Obama is supposed to do.....he is dealing with an opposition party that wants to destroy him so they FILLUBUSTER ANYTHING THAT MIGHT BE GOOD FOR THE COUNTRY no matter how crazy it is to be against the legislation and even if it the repubs legisdlation - they FILLUBUSTER. And then you have DINOs that go along with the fillubustering repubs.....plus, you have a media that constantly lies about Obama....so, yes, Obama unfortunately is not in a good position to fight and he needs to compromise to get anything good done....people here refuse to see that and want him to FIGHT but never explain what fight means....do you suggest that he takes a gun and point it at the heads of the fillubusters? What can the guy do about this other than doing something illegal? Repubs are the ones WHO DONT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT THE COUNTRY.....take your anger out at them.

8. Want me to tell you what I want?
I don't care if the sand and ocean constantly shifts under his feat. I want a little fire in his belly, a little less playing nice with his colossally poor plan of "bi-partisanship" a calling of the repubs bluff.

I know diplomacy, I know bi-partisanship, but what we have seen is nothing of the like.

All the repukes do is make a threat and he tries to find a middle ground, once found, he tries to get the bill through and that middle ground is lost by the re pukes baiting and switching by them then no participating.

This has happened time and time again. He keeps going to that well and each time he is poisoned.

A more clever man would have given up, knowing he was going to get sick yet again. Not Obama, he loves to be baited and switched again and again.

Many times, the dems have had the upper hand on many issues only to give it up by showing their hand or by just believing the repukes.

Enough. That's all I ask. Just enough. Stop believe the repukes. They laugh at him behind his back and in to his face.

10. I just think that Obama is a realist...
and understand that the repubs can block everything in the senate via the fillubuster and gets what he can for the good of the country even if it is not close to being perfect...at least it is something....as long as the repubs have 41 in the senate they will stop everything....if you were president and a dem that would not change no matter how much fire you had in the belly....

13. Realist or not, he's losing the very people who got him elected.
Sometimes you have to play to the masses even if it means play acting.

He is slowing heaving us off the boat and his one and only term will come not because he did all he could but his "realist" attitude pissed us off.

If "realism" is capitulating to the republicans, then give me a fucking phony every damn time.

#1 Prosecute the bankers!

#2 Get us out of these pointless wars

He takes care of those two and most of the rest corrects itself.
