'Sputnik Moment' is not about space...

...it's a wake-up call.

In 1957, when our country was surpassed by Russia's launch of Sputnik, we woke up to the fact that other countries might outdo us one day and take away out 'We're #1' status. So we got busy and worked harder to innovate and to improve math and science education. It worked! Thank goodness we woke up and FOCUSED on the problem.

Again we have problems and are being surpassed by other countries. Not in space exploration but in our economy. We need ALL KINDS of INNOVATION. And...once again...education is the key.

I wonder sometimes if Sputnik is going to have to hit us on the head...or crash and burn in each of our own backyards...before we wake up and pull together to do something. I hope not. :)
