Elizabeth Edwards' cancer returns; no additional treatment recommended by doctors

Elizabeth Edwards' cancer has returned with the disease spreading to her liver, People magazine reported on Monday.

The magazine said Edwards' doctors have recommended against additional treatment for the estranged wife of former presidential candidate John Edwards of North Carolina.

``Elizabeth has been advised by her doctors that further treatment of her cancer would be unproductive. She is resting at home with family and friends,'' the Edwards family said in a statement to People.

I was fortunate to meet Elizabeth, during the Kerry campaign. Even though we had just a short conversation, I remember how she was so delightful, down to earth and friendly. It will remain a very treasured memory.
