I would've expected more vitriol aimed at congress today |
|
Not that I'm letting Obama off the hook, but it's not like he's saying "I will veto any bill that doesn't include tax cuts for the rich". Indeed, he clearly stated he disagreed with such cuts.
This deal, as I understand it, is between the two parties in congress. Congress won't pass unemployment or middle-class tax cuts unless the rich get theirs too. Had congress passed an unemployment extension, I'm pretty sure he would've signed it.
I share your disappointment, but the vast majority of the blame lies in the House and Senate. This is their failure. I'm relieved and delighted that we may be getting the unemployment extension, but it's a shame that any deal needed to be made to get it :(

1. my vitriol was in phone calls and emails to Warner and Webb.... |

but Obama signalled he would accept this over a week ago, so why would the pukes NOT have held out sor all they could get?
Obama basically cut the legs (okay, being as we are talking about Dems, he cut the little TOES) out from under the Congressional Dems.
I am beyond disgusted with all of them.

However the Obama haters are out in full force, once again, and their only goal is to lay all the blame on the president. I think he could do more, but he is only one man, and can do nothing without congress to back him up. Sure he could have stood up to the republicans, and I really wish he had, but then again I am not unemployed needing an extension, nor will I be hurt my taxed did go up next year, so even though I want to see him get tougher, I also am glad millions will not have to suffer because they lose their unemployment, or have to pay higher taxes which will hurt them in the long run.
It's a two edge sword, but I think that many here only see things from one perspective and fail to see how hard it would have been on million if he had stood his ground on this one!

3. I think the president should take the lead and tell Congress what he wants, instead of telling |
|
Congress that he is ready and willing to give the republicans all they want. I want him to fight for us, not bow down to the damned republicans.

6. He's quite skilled at clearly stating that he doesn't agree with what HE is doing. |
|
He gets a lot of practice doing that.
