Yeah, a Democrat, preferably of the FDR variety. I'd even settle for one of the Johnson variety.
This Republican-masquerading-as-a-Democrat stance of his is insulting and infuriating.

55. They didn't dare filibuster because they knew
That FDR would hand them their asses in a hat. And the American people were fully behind FDR.

Don't forget also that there was a sizable Socialist movement in the US at that time so the wealthy feared the Socialists taking control of government --policies would then favor the majority, the poor and middle class and not the wealthy.

Today there is NO Socialist or Communist support in the US, and the rich and the Corporations run roughshod all over your rights and take your property when and how they please.

42. I disagree
Altough I haven't been there in a long time, I'm still a member of the military.com forum. I was constantly getting into debates with others there. Some of whom called me a leftwing nutjob and even told me I didn't belong there but I had enough moderate to conservative views on certain issues to survive. Here at DU, I get into many debates with some of the more liberally ardent members. But I do have some liberal views on certain issues so I do okay here. So, if I get called names at the conservative military.com and get into heated discussions here at DU, I then must be somewhere between the two. I'm in the middle.

60. It doesn't average out to be anything. You have a basket of apples and ground beef...
...and bars of soap. What does that average out to be? It doesn't. And to use terminology that suggests it does tells our elected officials that the way to win this vast pool of so-called "centrists" is to be tepid and timid.

That's a losing strategy. And it's harmful to the nation.

NGU.

32. Ever since the spat between Jon Stewart & KO, there has been a great deal of confusion about what
constitutes a "False dichotomy."

This reply has just added to it.

For starters, it's more commonly known as a "False dilemma," and for seconders, neither KO nor his defenders seem to understand what actually constitutes the same.

Here, educate yourself:

35. No, what Stewart did was false equivalency. Not the same thing.
Edited on Tue Dec-07-10 12:00 AM by laughingliberal
False Dichotomy

The fallacy of false dichotomy is committed when the arguer claims that his conclusion is one of only two options, when in fact there are other possibilities. The arguer then goes on to show that the 'only other option' is clearly outrageous, and so his preferred conclusion must be embraced.

30. Other— Like Stalin.
I mean, why pine for a half-ass dictatorial allegorical substitution, when there're perfectly good real dictators to be named.

And by extension, why would any of us care how Obama governs, if the policy works out the same once the bells and whistles are tolled and blown?

Of course, you didn't give the choice of a write-in (other) vote... did you? Rather black-and-white thinking of you, isn't it? Sounds like a Bush-style good guy v. bad guy set up. Did you vote for Bush in your own poll?

Edited on Tue Dec-07-10 05:08 AM by BlueIris
For some messed up reasons, yes, namely thinking he was Nero reborn, but he felt entitled to use the power of the position he was in. Obama doesn't seem to understand how to do that, or rather, IMO, hasn't been given permission to do that by the people pulling the strings, and either can't, or won't, break free of them.

50. I think a lot of people feel that way.
Someone posted recently that only Republican presidents are allowed to govern. Dems have to just keep the seat warm. I think Obama has done more than keep the seat warm. There seems to be outrage by the republicans no matter what Dems do, so Dems might as well do what they want. It's the same response.
