Founder of WikiLeaks Threatens to Release More Secret Dispatches
Source: nytimes.com

WASHINGTON — Julian Assange, the beleaguered founder of the anti-secrecy group WikiLeaks, has threatened to release many more confidential diplomatic cables if legal action is taken against him or his organization. Mr. Assange’s threat poses a problem for the Obama administration as it explores ways to prosecute Mr. Assange or the group.

On Monday, as Mr. Assange’s lawyers said he would meet with the British police about criminal charges involving sexual encounters in Sweden, Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. said the Justice Department had “a very serious, active, ongoing investigation that is criminal in nature” into the WikiLeaks matter.

“I authorized just last week a number of things to be done so that we can hopefully get to the bottom of this and hold people accountable,” he said at a news conference, declining to elaborate.

Mr. Holder’s statement followed Mr. Assange’s assertion that “over 100,000 people” had been given the entire archive of 251,287 cables “in encrypted form.”

3. The bank documents WILL be out in the open
Do you think for a NY minute the NY Times is going to sit on the sidelines while some joe blow posts them to his website?

7. Huckabee disagrees
and so do I. While I agree they are sometimes 'in bed' with the white house, they've shown no restraint when it comes to the cables.

Huckabee practically called the NY Times traitors the other day.

6. Actually, they backed off the scoop on #cablegate
It was on a vid earlier today. They wanted to "re-report" rather than be the break. A news org not wanting the scoop? Stunning.

If you are interested, I will search my history and see if I can find it for you.

2. Mr. Holder, I am very disappointed in you. Why not go after the true war criminals!
You can pick and choose, so many of them. Get them first, then thank Wikileaks for delivering justice to this country.

F**k!!!

9. That's NOT what he said. He is letting them know that killing him
or silencing HIM, will not stop the leaks. All it will do is make people even more angry, and it will make him a martyr. Very bad strategy since the leaks are going to happen anyhow.

If it is a shell game, it has failed. Around the world, people have lost complete trust in their governments. Hopefully that will result in a complete change of governments as it has eg, in Iceland where now the leaders of the previous government are being investigated and prosecuted, the banks have been nationalized and there is bill before their government to forgive all debt (foreclosures) which will make those who created the crisis, pay for it.

I would be shocked if the French don't throw out their Global Capitalist government in the next election and start undoing some of the damage done by them. And hopefully start investigating their leaders also.

It's possible that unregulated Capitalism is heading toward its end and they are fighting like crazy to save themselves.

Everything was dependent on the public remaining uninformed, that is no longer the case. That is why they took over the media here, to keep the people ignorant, and it is why Wikileaks is such a threat to them.
