Do We Have The Votes To End DADT?
Trading unemployment insurance for the needy for tax cuts for the greedy really didn't bother me as my girlfriend and I are part of the needy but DADT has to go. It seems the United States and the Middle Eastern nations beside Israel are the only nations that exclude gays from openly serving. Even a Catholic country like the Philippines where you can't even get a divorce lifted the ban on gays from serving openly in their military in 2009.

And while I am on my rant what the flip does "openly gay" mean. Do members of the military have some mythical gaydar where they can detect who is straight and who isn't. I have known gay, bisexual, questioning, and transgendered folks and they all had their own personalities and demeanors. They were no more uniform in their personality and demeanor than the straight folks I knew and know.

It's time to treat everybody equally, with dignity and respect. It's how we roll, or how we should roll in America.

End DADT now...

1. I would say it's more likely than not that DADT won't be repealed, but it could go either way.
There are probably at least 60 votes in the Senate who want the policy to go. (On the R side, Collins, Snowe, and Brown are 3 of them, along with possibly Murkowski.)

But as to the question of whether any of those Republicans will buck their party leadership, the answer is unknown. They have occasionally done so in the past (FinReg, Stimulus), but not during most other times.

4. I Think We Can Get Brown And Murkowski Easily. The Latter Doesn't Owe The Republicans Shit

I'm reminded of what LBJ told George Wallace in a phone call when he tried to dissuade him from blocking access to the University of Alabama to African American students. He asked him if he wanted his epitaph to read "He Hated". It didn't work but it says a lot about the two men. President Obama should do it with the Maine twins...

2. Oh now you want the party to stand and fight?
how ironic. Will you be posting Defense of Bullshit when this too doesn't happen? Or is this your line in the sand?

I truly don't give a rat's ass if a bunch of greedy fuckers get a tax cut. We will either grow our way out this recession or not at all.

5. The Modus Operandi of Congress is going to be "You got something to trade?"
The Republicans will be willing to bargain for anything that makes more money for their corporate masters.

Don't Ask, Don't Tell? How about we swap for unlimited offshore oil drilling?

Wanna trade Health Care Reform for the Dream Act?

GMO crops are on the table, got something to swap?

It is going to be a miserable two years until the 2012 elections.
