Mr. President, yesterday you made your bed, I hope you enjoy sleeping in it |
|
Yesterday the president made his decision, that his base does not matter to him. He thinks one of two things. That we won't remember or that we really do not matter when elections come around. The republican primaries are in just a little over 13 months. The 2012 election will be in full swing. Now I know that many Americans don't have very good memories and 14 months seems like a life time, I can guarantee that many of us have good enough memory to remember this.
We will not forget that you chose to give millionaires and billionaires huge tax cuts without putting up a true fight. These are the same millionaires and billionaires that made record profits while everyone else was taking shaft because of the same policies that these millionaires and billionaires enacted. You then decided to give them a huge tax cut on their inheritance as well which I don't think anyone even asked you to. What did you get in return for selling out on everything that you stood for during the last election? A 1 year extension of unemployment benefits. Oh wow, aren't the republicans merciful. If you really had to sell out to them because you are a coward you could have gotten the same thing by diverting a few billion from unspent stimulus money instead of borrowing 700 billion we don't have in order to pay for these tax cuts.
We also won't forget that during wall street reform the policies you enacted were mostly pro-wall street. Which is no wonder, since the legislation was written by wall street lobbyists. The fact you threw us a bone with the consumer protection agency won't change the fact that the system which destroyed our economy was largely unchanged.
We also won't forget that during the healthcare debate you and your minions kept insisting that passing a strong healthcare reform bill with a public option could not be done using reconciliation. That any suggestion of doing this using reconciliation was downright insane. Then what happened? You got your ass kicked in Massachusetts and the only way to pass your shitty healthcare bill was now through reconciliation. So you passed it that way, but without the true progressive policies you kept insisting you were for but didn't have the 60 votes for.
Mr. President, I think I speak for many when I say that I won't forget this. Good luck to you in November. I'm sure the republicans that you keep trying to get to like you will be there for you. At least I hope they are, because many of us won't be.

1. Obama will seek the Republican endorsement for 2012. |
|
He has discovered that millionaires are his kind of people. He salvaged the banks, but has done nothing for the unemployed.

I, for one, will be a LOT more discerning about democrats in the future. The more inspiring, the harder I hold onto my wallet.

...he'll be 84 years old in 2012. He couldn't even beat that flunky Norm Coleman for his old Senate seat back in 2002, but now he'll run for president? Why, so he can lose ALL 50 states this time, after his near-miss back in '84?

21. It's actually EXACTLY the opposite. He is wealthy enough to not really be effected if Republicans |

come back into power. When Republicans take power, you will suffer. Not him. And eventually, after seeing the consequences of your actions, you'll figure this out.

11. I cannot defend you today, Mr. President |
|
I have supported Obama and defended him (for the most part) over the last two years. While I do see the benefit of compromise when governing, especially on issues as complex as health care reform and financial regulations, this "bipartisan" deal of extending the Bush tax cuts to the wealthiest 2% of Americans in return for an extension of unemployment benefits is bad policy AND bad politics. Less taxes plus increased spending equals one thing: D-E-F-I-C-I-T-S. Mr. President, do you actually believe for one minute that the Republicans with whom you brokered this "deal" are going to share some of the responsibility for the red ink this deal you made with them will create? They will beat you over the head with it in 2012.
Polls showed the American people overwhelmingly supported keeping the tax cuts for people making under $250,000/yr and letting the ones for the wealthy expire. This should have been an easy win for you, Mr. President, and you totally blew it. I fear our country will suffer greatly for this mistake. Who advised you to do this? It may be time to shake up your domestic policy staff.
I was a Hillary supporter during the primary season in 2008. While Obama inspired me, I was concerned that his lack of D.C. experience would become a liability, especially trying to govern in these difficult economic times. Nevertheless, Obama won the nomination fair and square. I accepted the result, and threw my support behind him, hoping for the best. Today, the inexperience I feared would come back to haunt us has reared its ugly head.
Very disappointed in you today, Mr. President.

I will not vote for him again. Instead, I will actively support people like Bernie Sanders, Alan Grayson should he choose to run, Howard Dean and men or women of that ilk. Henceforth, I will simply work locally to starve the capitalism beast and protect myself and those around me. Sounds selfish, but I am not represented in Washington and haven't been for a long time. Plus the safety net programs of real D/democrats -- FDR and LBJ -- are being systematically destoyed.
BTW, I can't even stand to listen to Obama any more. He evinces the same viscerally negative reaction that Bush (both of them) did.
