House Tea Party leader Bachmann: GOP Should Scuttle Tax Deal
http://nation.foxnews.com/tax-cuts/2010/12/07/bachmann-gop-should-scuttle-tax-deal

December 07, 2010

A House Tea Party leader said Monday that GOP lawmakers might vote down an extension of tax cuts if it's tied to an extension in unemployment aid.

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), the chairwoman of the House Tea Party Caucus, said Republicans could balk at voting to extend all the tax cuts for two years if it's tied to a long-term extension of jobless benefits.

Wants the jobless benefits taken out. Nice, eh?

7. So, your instinct is to bash Obama instead of Bachmann. nt

18. I'm not bashing anyone
I am stating a new reality for me. I have NO IDEA what Obama really stands for anymore, and I don't know - have no faith - in any of the promises, much like issues, that he has made and supported from day 1.

Do you?

6. Actually, it would make sense....
...if the Teapublican Party actually stood for balanced budgets. Since they don't want to increase tax revenue by letting the tax cuts for the top 2% of income-earners expire, they should not agree to any spending increase on top of it (i.e.--unemployment benefits). Conservatives are showing their typical hypocrisy once again when it comes to fiscal responsibility--cut taxes (esp. for the wealthy), but tip-toe away from cutting spending. Then, blame the resulting deficits on the Democrats.

12. It's a $700 billion bailout for the rich.
No real fiscal conservative would ever agree to this.

11. So is she saying that the rich can not deliever on their promise
to create jobs??

The republicans say the tax cut for the rich will allow them to create jobs.
With jobs created that will reduce the need for unemployment.
So extended unemployment will become a non issue.

Or are they saying everything out of their mouths is a lie??

13. Should the deal be scuttled?
Not for the reason Bachman gives, but extending the Bush tax cuts to the rich is too big a pill to swallow. I'd rather see none of the tax cuts extended.

I guess the question is whether it's worth caving to the repukes on the tax issue to get a 13-month extension for the unemployed. It's easy for me to say NO to that deal, but I have a secure job.

14. Please, call her bluff, scuttle the deal.
Obama can pay for the UI extension out of unspent stimulus money, and we can let all the tax cuts expire, making the 'Pugs look like the selfish, greedy fools they are.
