I recall the Waxahachie School District having a hard time with their budget. A few things have been on my mind for a while and I would like to hear others’ opinion. I think there are some things that should be put on the ballots and let the public vote on them. With the economy like it is, everyone is aware that each must do their part. Here are some ideas they might think about for the next budget workshop.
1. Stop offering free breakfast and lunches to 67 percent of the students every day. Only offer lunches to ones that their parents have lost their jobs through no fault of their own.
2. Stop offering free daycare to mothers still in school. The children are their responsibility. They should be made to pay a small amount for this service.
3. Stop giving free shots to all students. We have Hope Clinic and the parents have all summer to get these shots.
If I sound like a heartless person, just let me remind you that the government (our tax money) sends a check to each unwed mother, gives her food stamps, helps her with low income housing, unless she is living with her parents or the father of her children.
We MUST start teaching these young people to assume responsibility for themselves and not depend on others to support them.

(My Response)
" Mary...this really isn't a humane or effective plan for budget control.Let's try bringing our businesses back to the USA,paying these families a living wage, and providing health care for all(Kind of like Medicare).
No vaccinations will mean the return of polio,smallpox,mumps,measles...the things we have eradicated in the United States because these are available to all,no exceptions.
People who challenge any kind of "Welfare" fail to support availability of birth control and are definitely not pro-choice.Abstinence has not gotten us very far,Mary...especially since education about birth control is forbidden.
Where,exactly,are jobs?Where,exactly,is child care that someone making $7.50/hr can afford?An innoculation for a mother and/or child costs 15 dollars each(+ or -).
My partner works at an elementary school that has 98% of students below the poverty level. We should starve 98% of students? The teachers would feed their students...and then they will leave, because their funding is being cut for other school-required needs.Poor kids don't need to learn,do they? How do we determine which families lost their jobs due to no fault of their own?
There are always street corners.Maybe we should take advice from India,Indonesia and Ghana...children should be able to work, their mothers can beg.
That's always where we want to cut.Save the top 2% their tax breaks-make the poor suffer.
Peace.
Beth "
