Z. Brzezinski: (right wing) Americans stunningly ignorant and pick ignorant spokespersons
http://www.spiegel.de/international/world/0,1518,733079,00.html

Brzezinski: I am very worried that most Americans are close to total ignorance about the world. They are ignorant. That is an unhealthy condition in a country in which foreign policy has to be endorsed by the people if it is to be pursued. And it makes it much more difficult for any president to pursue an intelligent policy that does justice to the complexity of the world.

SPIEGEL: Yet the American right is still convinced of American exceptionalism.

Brzezinski: That is a reaction to the inability of people to understand global complexity or important issues like American energy dependency. Therefore, they search for simplistic sources of comfort and clarity. And the people that they are now selecting to be, so to speak, the spokespersons of their anxieties are, in most cases, stunningly ignorant.

(He's talking about you, Sarah Palin, first among equally ignorant.)

SPIEGEL: As National Security Advisor to President Jimmy Carter, you tried to prepare Americans for a more multipolar world -- one with a stronger China and a weaker US. Americans did not like that idea and Carter was voted out of office after one term.

Brzezinski: That concept is now very much a reality when you look at the rise of countries like China and India.

SPIEGEL: And the American decline. Are Americans aware of that trend or does the fate of Carter await President Barak Obama should he openly address the issue?

Americans hate to face reality. They hate to know the truth, that their govt. does not serve them well when it serves the rich, that they may win the lottery, but the odds are against them...and over the long haul, the casino wins against the wanna-be playas.

Americans so hate to face reality that we cannot develop alternative energy sources, as other western nations are doing, by producing OUR OWN products in this arena - rather than having them produced in China. (solar panels, for example.)

Americans so hate to face reality that they will put people in prison for a plant rather than utilize that plant as a replacement for forestry products and so protect our natural oxygen producers and carbon filters.

Americans so hate to face reality that they will insist on religious schools and funding for the same so that their children don't have to learn about the value of the scientific method, rather than a stone age myth because they think god needs them to protect people from the truth.

Americans so hate to face reality that they will vote for the party that has destroyed the economy over the last thirty years to lead the house --- because that same party bailed out the bankers to whom they gave free reign to treat American lives like gambling chips in the Wall Street casino.

Yeah, Democrats participate, but it takes totally FUCKED UP Republicans to make this ignorance the signature of American life.

Or rather, without the Republicans, the Democrats would have to face reality and recognize they couldn't get elected by acting like Republicans in blue dresses with jizz on their chins.

But Americans are too ignorant to demand legislation that is in their best interests by voting against those who create it.

and are more effective than most Dems at winning the messaging war. They listen to folks like Frank Luntz and Grover Norquist, and follow orders.

When the talking heads speak, every single repuke says the exact same thing...over and over and over....THAT is what the public hears.

3. You notice this article appeared in a German magazine, not an American one
Because the American media is just as culpable in repeating those right-wing messages.

The American media hates the people of this nation as much as the Republicans do. They play on and feed their ignorance.

2. Zbig once remarked to Joe Scar right on Morning Joe "You are stunningly superficial."
I think Joe was pissed but finally got past that and even had a T shirt made up that said STUNNINGLY SUPERFICIAL. I thought that was pretty funny...
