Obama seemed condescending when talking about left today? |
|
Edited on Tue Dec-07-10 08:27 PM by quinnox
I watched his press conference and it seemed to me he was very condescending when talking about the left. In response to a question about them being disappointed in him and wondering if he had any core principles, he made it out like the left are all a bunch of hopeless dreamers who aren't in touch with reality, and that just don't understand how politics work.
Anyone else pick up on this?

|
But it is hyper ironic for a man who claims to be a strict Christian dogmatist, who describes his own sort of people as 'sanctified by God' and says that others are not, and thus should not have equal rights, to be defended by calling those he attacks 'purists'. The man says God sanctifies him and his views come from the divine. A purist. Claims to be 'defending a Sacrament', like Galahad the Pure of some such. It is all nonsense of course. But face it, the President foists himself as being a purist Christian traditionalist, says he is 'sanctified'- whatever that means- and he says it is all about pure faith. Faith based purity, ala Galahad, sanctity, sacraments, purity! Anything to prevent 'those people' from thinking they are as good as straights!

OK...please tell us, Oh Big Kahuna, what words MAY we use to describe a man that is acting in this manner?
I am guessing that you are someone that seems to find racism in everything. Look hard enough and you will see it.

I don't think he was asked if he had any core principles. I believe the reporter asked something more like "how can people identify your core principles." I think that there is big difference. One implies that he doesn't have any core principles...the other one doesn't. Like I said, I may not be remembering it correctly.

Would you feel insulted if I hired a preacher to call your sort of people vampires, and then refused to apologize? Men like Obama dish out great heaping servings of most vicious criticism delivered under the color of the divine. who said about what you said (forgot his name, was on with Matthews the same time as Chuck Todd). He had to agree with Obama that there was little choice in the matter of the tax cuts, and after studying the situation from all angles, Obama acted rightly. However, he couldn't get over the total lack of humor and style used by Obama in the speech and he sounded way too agressive with the left - he showed no empathy or understanding of their position and was nicer to the right....

The only back stabbing going on for the last two years has been by the blue dogs in the senate. They've been stabbing the Democratic party in the back. And who does Obama turn to for advice on tax cuts? None other than back stabbing lame duck blue dog Blanch Lincoln. It shows you where his heart lies.

134. Yes, Senate blue dogs have been the problem. |
|
And yet, many pundits and bloggers act as though Obama is the only elected official in DC. Obama is blamed for every compromise and defeat forced by the Senate. Obama is always the target of attacks instead of the Senate. It doesn't make sense and it didn't help get any agenda item through the Senate roadblock. The left was attacking Obama non-stop when it should have been attacking the Senate. That's how Obama was stabbed in the back.

Remember who his mentor was, Holy Joe Lieberman. And who does he turn to for advice on the tax cuts? Blanch Lincoln. Haven't you wondered why the same handful Senators have been controlling/thwarting the party's agenda again and again and again yet there never seems to be any consequences? Notice how everything is negotiated away before any votes are taken? Nobody seems to be able to influence them to change there ways. They lead and we have to follow regardless of how much damage they're doing to the party. Isn't that the job of the President and Senate leadership to whip everyone into line? When does the whipping begin?

Obama repeatedly pressured the Senate to pass more progressive bills. He asked the public and netroots to help him do it. How did most of the netroots respond? Ignore the Senate and scapegoat Obama. Very counterproductive.
Yes, compromises were negotiated when it became clear that Senate conservatives wouldn't budge. That's how government works. And once again, it's not rational to blame Obama for the fact that some Democrats are blocking the progressive agenda that OBAMA proposed and fought for.
It's also the job of the PEOPLE to pressure the Senate and we failed to provide much help when Obama was fighting for what progressives want.

We could have used that spine when he was supposed to be creating and defending universal health care, and then demanding recovery options for poor people, and then creating jobs programs, and demanding that the rich pay their fair share in taxes, and ending DADT... :(

And, yeah, I'm not too proud to admit I cry about what's going on when my husband is hungry and we have nothing in the house for him to eat. He's worked himself into ill health and near death trying to keep us going and the rich are going to get their tax break while we scrape for food.
Thanks for understanding.

I cannot for the life of me understand why Obama hates his left base as much as he does. Who does he think will contribute and work for him during the 2012 cycle? With each passing day he inches closer to alienating the entire country.

"THEY" TELL US...what we Heard from his Speeches was not WHAT HE SAID!

President Obama, I think you are expert at finding the path of least resistance for yourself, but what's easiest for you isn't what's best for Americans. As it turns out, it's not as easy for you as you thought it would be.

Because where are we supposed to go, realistically?
It is true that the other side is much worse, so as much as I HATE the Democrats (almost all of them, including Obama, with rare exceptions like Feingold), what choice do I have?
I am in favor of burning the whole thing down and starting over, by writing a new Constitution, one that really does mean government of, by and for the people. Including bans on lobbying, corporate campaign donations, single payer health care, etc.

129. How do you know that? |
|
You make many off hand, crazed proclamations, but you never cite anything to substantiate your claims. Your wild claims, made up out of whole cloth. Show us the numbers that compare DU to 'the left' with quantities and contrasts. I mean, you are in support of a man who proclaims that an invisible being tells him that gay people are not 'sanctified'- his word- and you are talking about 'reality'? What does 'sanctified' mean, in the context of 'reality'? Here on DU, histrionics and hyperbole often rule the day. CAPS and "quote marks" and unsupported claims are not real arguments. You say something, this does not make it true, it just makes it more noise out of what, a retail salesperson? Some random guy on the internet, who never has facts at hand, just declarations of faith based 'belief'. Like the 'sanctified' nonsense, it is all meaningless rhetoric. Vapid, without any real basis in the language or in current events. So some guy in a cubicle shouts it! That must mean it is true! A person with no standing at all, saying things that are not proven at all. Faith based, like the 'sanctity of marriage' bs. I'm not an evangelical. So the faith based magic words trip does not work here. Those who claim to have facts need to support those 'facts' not simply repeat them along with bully phases like 'bashing' and such. Criticism is criticism. Bashing is what straight thugs do to gay people to express their 'faith' and 'sanctity'.

She lost a big time anyway even without votes for Gray and Trevor together. I consider myself a FDR democrat. When the democratic party moves to the right they call us "f-king retarded" when we hold on to our principles. Us or them?? It's them, they are trying to make us think it's us, but we're not stupid, are we?

No way!
:sarcasm:
On the double standard front, people have no problem condescending to the President here on a daily basis: He's in over his head, he's small and pathetic, he's weak, he has no experience, he needs psychological help.
But if someone here thinks anyone has said that about them, look out!
But President Obama? People think they "own" him with their votes, so he's theirs to do as they see fit.

He's got less than two years to turn things around and stop crapping on the people who elected him. If he continues on this path - which includes attacking his supporters - he will be a one term president best known for blowing the largest lead in the history of the presidency.
I keep thinking he'll snap out of it, but I'm beginning to think he's simply incapable of admitting he'll never make any gains by capitulating to the right.
He's not good at leading.
