After the November elections, this is surprising.

Michigan voters say they'd back President Obama over Sarah Palin, Mitt Romney and even Rick Snyder

President Barack Obama would carry Michigan in his bid for reelection according to a new poll that pitted him against several likely GOP candidates.

Despite the economic collapse and its disproportionate toll on Michigan and the resounding defeat suffered by state Democrats at the polls in November, Obama maintains a 50-percent approval rating here, reported Public Policy Polling, a national firm based in North Carolina.

The firm interviewed 1,224 Michigan voters from Dec. 3-6. The margin of error is +/- 2.8 percent

Some 45 percent said they are unhappy with the president's job performance. Democrats were overwhelmingly supportive, with 90 percent saying they approve, while 85 percent of Republicans disapprove.

Independents were slightly favorable with 47 percent saying they approve to 44 percent who don't.

Obama's numbers blew away the ratings for likely opponents. Only former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who has Michigan roots and won the Michigan GOP primary in 2008, has more favorables than unfavorables here, 39 to 37 percent.

1. The real question ...
... is will they vote for Obama over anyone else in the primary?

4. Black voters will....as well as the sane Dems.
I just don't know about the "Let's purposely lose the elections, so that everyone can suffer, and maybe then voters will get mad enough to want a revolution and overthrow the entire American system and start all over again with something that will be perfect maybe" folks....

2. They don't ask about a primary challenge, though.
I think lots of the base will be sitting home in 2012, unless something really changes.

3. I'd certainly hope so
Whatever I think of the job that President Obama is doing, I would support him in a heartbeat against those right wingers. Especially that nutjob from Alaska.

From the report linked in the OP:

"Among independents, the poll found Huckabee a net negative, 29/43; Gingrich at 20/59 and Palin 40 points down, 28/68."

Independents in MI do NOT like the current crop of GOPer hopefuls. Gotta wonder if this holds true in other states.
