Arrest in pickup-dragging death of homeless woman
A 51-year-old man was arrested today for allegedly dragging a homeless woman to her death with his pickup truck in Antioch.
Lucio Rivera-Avila of Brentwood was booked on suspicion of murder in the death of Shelly Davis, 47, police said.
The two had been sitting in the suspect's Nissan Frontier pickup truck in the parking lot of a produce store at 1725 Cavallo Road shortly before 1:50 a.m., authorities said. An argument erupted, and Davis got out of the truck, police Lt. Leonard Orman said.
Rivera-Aliva backed up, accelerated and hit Davis "very hard," dragging her about 50 to 75 feet, Orman said.
It was "clearly intentional" and was caught on a surveillance camera of a nearby business, Orman said.
Davis was pronounced dead at a hospital.
