The administration understands what the sanctimonious purists do not.
This tax cut deal was the best we could have gotten. (Blame Congress.) We got the best health insurance bill we could have gotten. (Blame Congress.) We got the largest stimulus we could have gotten. (Blame Congress.) We've done as much for gay people as we can. (Blame Congress and the military.) We did as well in the 2010 election as we could have. (It's a historical pattern.)
Everything that's happened is the best that could have happened, in this best of all possible worlds.
EDIT: Satire. Sorry for confusion caused by trying to be too cute.

5. I don't think you're being genuine at all. |
|
In fact, I think your OP shows your true colors quite well, BlueCheese.

6. You're right, the post is satire, like the source of its title. |
|
But I didn't mean to offend anyone.

and tempers are a bit heated over the realization that our Republic is a sham. No personal offense taken at all.

Since we're living in times that don't make much sense at all, it's not always easy to tell...! ;-)

12. Well there was Dr. Pangloss to thank for the DLC planning team. |
|
The trouble is that all of those statements are unfortunately true. Given the leadership we have, these dismal attempts are probably the best they could do. Maybe those who argued a few years ago that inexperience and a overwhelming desire for a kumbaya government weren't really what the Democrats needed were right.
So it come to Candide's reply to Pangloss's asinine ignorance because it does indeed appear that we are on our own. When Candide famously says ""We must cultivate our own garden", it seems to be Voltaire's grasp at trying to find reason in a world that he found headed in the wrong direction.

Best thing about Pangloss is that he is modeled on the co-inventor of calculus, Leibniz.
