Purist here. I have something to say. |

The rich are making hand over fists in this economy. They, on the other hand, are contributing nothing to this economy. They do not deserve a tax cut. They are not expanding the economy or producing job growth. The unemployed get an extension of benefits (good and a real stimulus) but that has no connection to the black hole of the tax cuts because there is a real return on it. It still won't cover that hole made for those at the top who are doing just fine and for which there is no reason to extend this drain on our economic outlook. Only job creation will turn it around and that is dependent on demand. Only an expansion of the tax base will work.
Dueling Tax Cuts
Don't fall for it unless you yourself believe in the tax cut silver bullet dogma. For every $1.00 of tax cuts, it returns when averaged out only $1.01 return on that dollar. That's only a 1 percent return on investment. 1 percent on a billionaire's money is a lot of money that they will just pocket and take out of the economy. 1 percent on a middle or lower family income scale is not and even if that 1 percent is returned back into the economy, it won't make up for that hole at the billionaire end. If you're on the low end of the scale, this won't help your long term condition when they talk about how much you'll be getting compared to the rich collectively, especially as user fees and increases in state and local taxes try to make up for lost money that follows austerity or domestic cut measures. Say no to the tax cut Santa Claus for a change. It's a failed ideology that should have run its course.
Payroll tax cuts + a "deficit" commission that does not look at revenue, only benefits paid out + false blame on entitlements = bad news for social security and medicare and medicaid
Remember the goals of what those that blame entitlements is. To erase what the New Deal was designed to bring to the table for the welfare of the American people. Those that have always sought a way to disassemble it share a different vision.
That is all.

3. What keeps getting missed is that the three things: |
|
Unemployment insurance, tax cuts for middle class and tax cuts for the filthy rich should never have been linked together. The other thing I haven't seen much discussion about is how this pronouncement came down from on high with no discernible debate. Do all of Obama's biggest decisions get dealt with behind closed doors and then are presented as fait accompli?

17. K&R. I don't know if a yella dawg like me can be a purist. Merely an anti plutocrat. |
|
How's that? I'm just a confused anti-plutocrat. The rich & poor gap was almost as bad in 2007 as it was in the late 20's before that great crash. Income of the super-rich has soared since Reagan.
I thought we Democrats would rush in to power in 2009 to rebalance our economy and correct the massive distortion of Trickle Down Supply Side economics--
Thought we would return to the more PRAGMATIC Democratic tradition of Demand-Side Economics -- be sure you have citizens who can afford to buy the damn products.
Millions crossed party lines to vote Democratic in 2008 because they were sick of Supply Side lies. Those lies crashed our economy already. They wanted Demand Side, put us all to work repairing the infrastructure Bush Cheney allowed to decay to finance their wars and free us from national health insecurity and we'll gladly go out shopping again.
Demand Side economics is far more pragmatic than the supply side crap.
Slashing entitlements would be really dumb. Not at all pragmatic. It would reduce demand still further. So I really don't understand when supporters of our president tell me he is pragmatic. He has not been pragmatic enough so far. The demand side is still under water. I don't buy half as much as I used to.

Tax cuts for the already rich make absolutely no sense for the economy and are a major seed for the wealth and income disparity that has weakened the USA and world stability.
I don't want POTUS Obama to fail -- that would be idiotic. Neither do I understand passed legislation that is regressive to the Democratic narative of my life that is claimed as "Win".
POTUS Obama said that a majority of the People supported repeal of Bush era tax cuts for the extreme wealthy but negotiated away the apparant bi-partisan (radically different reasoning) and obvious plus to deficit and jobs -- wealthy tax cuts do not creat jobs, they creating hoarding of liquid capital to buy distressed assets at a discount. Much the same reasoning was the negotiatian about a robust Public Option, the keystone to health reform.
I do not like the narrative being played in DC and MSM.
