Facebook Not Disconnecting Wikileaks – Yet

Actually, some good news. Facebook is saying that Wikileaks stays on Facebook. If charges are filed, that may change.

From the article...

Wikileaks has been feeling the chill since it released a quarter of million documents just last week. Several major operators disconnected themselves from the site. Amazon was the first when they stopped hosting the site. Paypal soon followed when it shut down its account. Visa suspended payments, and the other major credit card, Mastercard, said they would do the same on Tuesday.

...

There is nothing at all wrong with the content, so there is no need to take down the page. In fact, Wikileaks has broken no laws here by releasing the documents in the manner it did. Unless charges are filed, Facebook might keep turning a blind eye and whistling the same tune. The actions of Wikileaks might not be favorable in the eyes of most of the online world right now, but until a law has been broken there will be no changes made to Wikileaks Facebook page.

1. At the moment, the Wikileaks Facebook page has 1,063,422 fans
...that's kind of a lot.

2. It's the most popular page I subscribe to
Indeed, they can get over a hundred comments within minutes of posting something, it's impressive!

3. Meanwhile, their "Timothy McVeigh American Hero" page still stands.
If they decide to dump wikileaks, they damn well better dump all the other American traitor pages, too.

4. Of course not - Facebook and Wikileaks dont' have anything to do with each other.
Its much different than Amazon who was hosting their servers or Mastercard and Paypal who were forwarding payments to Wikileaks from their users - Facebook has no connection to Wikileaks and Wikileaks has no connection to Facebook. There's no reason to take down the page.
