We’ve had a half-term governor. Why not a half-term president? |
|
Edited on Wed Dec-08-10 02:42 PM by Cyrano
I worked hard for Obama’s election, I donated to his campaign, and I voted for him. Do you suppose I can ask for the return of my labor, my money and my vote? (On edit, I don't want my vote back. Perhaps the best thing Obama has done was to save us from McCain/Palin.)
So why would I like to see a half-term president? Because he is a man who has repeatedly sold out the base of the Democratic Party, and betrayed virtually every bedrock liberal/progressive principle.
I’ve heard the White House talking points about his “accomplishments,” (or as I call them, crumbs). I’ve listened to those pundits who still believe in him spin reality into a whirlpool. And I’ve read the posts of DUers who will never give up on him under any circumstances.
Basically, we elected a man who, I believe, wasn’t ready for the job. And if he was ready, I can’t comprehend the reasons for his devastating performance in office.
My President, I realize this won't happen, but how about if you consider resigning for the good of the majority of Americans and the good of the Democratic Party. Joe Biden can handle the job for the next two years and then we can decide who we want to put up for president.
I know this post will piss off many here on DU and there’s nothing I can do about that. But right now, I’m really pissed with a president who reaches out to those who would destroy him, while spitting on us -- his own base – repeatedly.

Check for Carbon Monoxide leaks in your place too. Might be a lack of oxygen? Like maybe go outside and get some fresh air and see if you start thinking rationally.

I think Obama is right on this one. There is a lot of shit the Democrats in congress are not talking about, like their own plan to drop the inheritance tax below $7 mil, rather than the $10 mil of the "Deal"...they all want their own part of the deal, and want time on TV before the GOP takes over.
ALL politics stinks.

is when people say "this country was built on compromise" like its not true. It defiantly is true, and we have done great things with compromise throughout the years. The problem is the idea of comprise breaks down when the right turns as extreme as they have in the last 2 years.

You really think that the GOP house is going to advance legislation in two years that DOESN'T force him to compromise again?

13. this is a perfect example of what is wrong with the Democratic party |
|
we shoot our own, and proudly proclaim that WE are the "progressives".
"I know this post will piss off many here on DU and there's nothing I can do about that. But right now, I'm really pissed...."
translation: anyone who doesn't think like me, doesn't matter.
That is exactly the kind of thinking the republican majority has.
screw that.
I'm a Democrat- I support Pres.Obama. I'm not about to quit on him because he isn't able to work miracles. I KNEW he wasn't the messiah. I know he's doing the best job that can be done with what he's got to work with.

37. You are asking a President to resign, because you feel he has turned |
|
his back on liberal principles. Not because he has been charged with a crime and will be impeached or removed from office anyway...but because he let Cyrano down. Cyrano feels he is not living up to his liberal promise, and Cyrano feels disillusioned.

39. I always considered the first two years of a president's term as the "on-the-job" training part. |
|
Except for ex-Pres. Shit-fer-Brains -- I knew he would be a disaster from day one.
Anyway, the President has now had his nose bloodied, as is also traditional. Now both sides have a measure of the other.
I, for one, shall now look upon the next two years with great interest.

at him there are a few others you can hold a grudge with. Like the members of the Democratic Senate and House who vote with Republicans against our interest. We have a President who will only put out there what he thinks he can get the votes to achieve. I want him to fight,Hell I'm ready. But that self-motivated by loot Congress will never be totally in his or our corner. We could elect a tiger with 20 inch fangs, but with the corporate loot that is spread out there so thick, you got some members of Congress who will put their head in the tiger's mouth for enough money. Why would they ever do anything for the Average American for our two's and fews!!!

51. I hope he won't run in 2012, but I do NOT support the idea of resignation. |
|
Mid-term resignations are the stuff of political nightmares. We'd just end up with a President Biden who would see his legislative attempts consistently blocked by the argument that "he wasn't elected President anyway". It would be the ultimate lame duck term.
I'd much rather see Obama finish out his current term, and then step aside to let other Democratic candidates run unfettered in the 2012 primaries. I think that solution would end a lot of divisiveness without undermining our legislative goals.

Step aside....might as well simply hand the keys to whatever fundie asshole the pukes put up.
The argument would rightly be: "The Democrats can't even support their elected President enough to allow him to run for a second term" Fuck me I'd believe that if he was asked or forced to not run for a second term.
Obama will be the nominee and Obama will win re-election no matter how much bitching and moaning goes on in the ether.

This attitude right here is why Obama was justified in every single word he spoke regarding the sanctimonious, puritanical vocal fringe that is making the entire left look like a bunch of childish, low information idealogs.
