Repealing DADT Is A Lot More Important To Me Than Some Greedy Pigs Getting Their Filthy Lucre
If it is repealed I will consider the 111th Congress an unqualified success...

I do.

2. I figured you would.
Since, that is exactly why they're throwing this pork chop at the Liberals at this time.

8. A Pork Chop
This is the greatest advance for civil rights since the landmark civil rights legislation of the mid sixties.

Just don't lose your zeal for the rest of the progressive platform.

3. It will be a failure IMO if DADT is not repealed. It will be a commentary to
me on how shallow this gov. is about civil rights and frankly the civility of the country in the future. The Greedy Pigs will have won again.

6. I would agree with you- but the republicans won't budge until
they get their tax cuts for the rich and famous.

And while Pres. Obama understands the necessity of making some tough choices to achieve the best possible outcome, there are an awful lot of people are saying that repealing DADT, extending UE benefits and other vital issues aren't as important as making a political statement.. while declaring that THEY are the 'real' democrats.

9. I am so praying ...
I know the conventional wisdom is that this will not pass, but I am still hoping otherwise.

Both Mr. Frazzled and I have put in appeals to our brand new Illinois senator, Mark Kirk (R--yikes). He was a relatively moderate Republican in social terms who is now going to be tightly controlled by his party. The people of Illinois support the repeal of DADT, and it is incumbent upon him to represent his constituents.

I was 14 years old when the Civil Rights Act passed, a young adult when the Equal Rights Amendment didn't, and would like to be a part of this continued march toward social justice and equality. I truly am actually praying (even though I'm pretty much an agnostic!).

10. Why don't we The People govern instead of
those who are elites/millionaires/billionaires controlling the Whitehouse? It's a very bad idea because of their self serving vested interests, catering to corporations and military industrial complex. Barf!

Yes, I agree with you. Repealing DADT is VERY important. The top!

21. Letting the Log Cabin Republicans ruling stand unchallenged
Or stopping the loss of personal through DADT via stop loss orders.

I truly do hope that DADT is repealed in Congress, but I fear that it isn't, that we're all being played again. And even if it is passed, it certainly won't make this Congress an unqualified success. It will simply mean that this Congress was a little less sucky that I originally thought.

24. It's Always Better To Have Legislation Passed By The Legislature Than The Courts
But I would take what I could get.

Having the legislature do it robs the konservatives of the argument that liberals can't persuade majorities of the righteousness of their causes and need the courts to do their bidding...

Glad that you and Obama weren't in charge of the Civil Rights movement, we'd still be fighting that one now.

But legislative action has more legitimacy.

Konservatives are still kvetching about Roe v Wade nearly forty years later...

22. They're not getting THEIR "filthy lucre," they're getting OURS. And making our kids pay for it.
While demanding that the unemployed be on their own and that Social Security be handed over to Wall Street.

We can keep DADT on the agenda, keep attaching to appropriations bills, keep doing whatever is necessary to repeal it...but once we give the rich mofos their $700,000,000,000 it's GONE, with nothing but economic trouble in our future. DADT MUST be repealed. But not at the expense of our entire economy. They don't have to be part of the same fight.
