"Yes, we can?" No, it turns out that we can't. |
|
I'm probably the last DUer who would be willing to criticize President Obama, but there you have it.
I weep for my country. My beloved America has devolved even further into the politics of greed than I had thought possible during the Dark Days of the you-know-who regime.
Mr Obama, you were our hope. We thought you to be the last bastion of courage, and you turned out to not be so.
Goodbye, my dream of America.

1. Yes we could have if we'd really wanted to |
|
By "we" I mean those with the official power to do anything.
I won't mention any names, I'll just look at 1600 Penn Ave and whistle.

but I can't keep up completely. There are, yes, some courageous holdouts in the congress / senate, including my fellow Vermonter Bernie?

9. I meant holdouts on DU. |
|
The names here are pretty obvious. I don't think it would be appropriate to name them. In fact several are people whom I respect and care for, although I think they're permitting their loyalty and deency to be abused.

I am very unhappy with current developments. I know this man, President Obama, is brilliant and well-intended, but something is obviously not right.
And it is not just his fault; it is our own party, and it is the Repukes, and it is the general trend in the air towards implosion.

14. your last line is the KEY. as is the first one in Redstone's- |

everybody wants to pin this on Pres.Obama.
Where is the "we" in that? This isn't a dictatorship, empire, or monarchy. Why didn't congress take up the tax issue earlier if it was so simple?
What could anyone- any president you could imagine- honestly get accomplished given the circumstances?
I think we all need to back off and really look at the situation rationally.
Pres. Obama is taking all the shit for this, he isn't shying away, yet yesterday when he explained WHY he believed this was the best way to go many people balked- they don't have any alternative plan that has a ghost of a chance of working, and they don't like the reality, so they choose to pin it all on him. The mess we are in isn't his fault, it's everyones fault.

He is clearly not up to the task. He sucks as a negotiator. He needs to resign and let Biden take over. At least he has a pair.

and it seemed to accomplish nothing.
Do you have any words of encouragement? Those would be welcome, indeed.

24. I'm sorry for your sense of betrayal. I went through that during the Vietnam era, and I know how |
|
painful it is. That is why some of us aren't saying "We told you so"---we know the pain involved.
However, there is MUCH MORE to do than "vote", and maybe that is your takeway in all of this mess.
What there is now is MOVEMENT POLITICS rather than PARTY POLITICS.
Harder, but more to the point.

That is why you'll be back here again and again and again mourning the death of America. A country and culture is a big thing. It doesn't just go away that easily. No matter what Keith may say.

The United States as a sovereign nation may be on it's way out, just like the Soviet Union, and the Third Reich.
It may be high time for us to break up as a country and at least salvage part of it for progressive values. The Red States can go rot in their Republican hellholes. Hail Cascadia!

And worked for it, the problem is not enough of "WE" care enough to do what obviously needs to be done, the days of expecting any elected official to do the right thing and follow through has been long gone like it or not, it is entirely up to "WE" the people if we honestly want the change we so desperately Need

resentful that we allowed the MSM (and the candidates, for that matter) to characterize him this way. The difficult part for me is that those Democrats I did have hope for have trashed up their own reputations pretty good by getting embroiled in this mess. That's going to make it difficult, if not impossible, for them to get anything done, let alone anything hopeful, in the future.
