Sherrod Brown is disgusted with his fellow Senators - not one Republican voted |
|
to approve a ONE TIME $250 payment to Social Security recipients, yet again are gung ho on the tax cuts for the wealthy.
Do these people have no shame? No compassion? No sense of "I am my brother's keeper"?
I'm disgusted, too. :puke:
He was just speaking on the Floor after the vote.

they still believe the myth that they might someday become a millionaire, so they don't want to raise taxes on existing millionaires, just in case their fortunes turn.
And, there's that little issue of any money coming from a Dem program having been touched by Satan...

17. Seniors vote republican |
|
Because they are scared by all the right wing talking points. They like things the way they are, they are at an age where change is not something they want to see in their lives, and it's pretty easy to scare someone who is up in their years, I know, my mother in law is one of them and she believes all the BS the right wing tells her, no matter how insane it may be! She is scared of the "liberals" because Rush told her to be scared. She was really going over the edge, but now we have made sure she no longer listens to Rush, and we bought her a cellphone, canceled her land line so they can't keep calling her and telling her all those lies while asking for money! Cutting off the source of BS has really worked and she no longer is afraid of things!

23. Yep. My mom passed away in September. Her mailbox |
|
was filled with RW crap asking for money. She had books by Malkin and DVDs by Gingrich in her apt still in the shrink wrap. She probably bought these things to support the "fair-n-balanced" crowd.
She had dozens of messages on her voice mail. Many were from RWers asking for money to defeat "Hussein Obama."
Sad. They're like vultures, scaring people to death - people like my mom who were retired with only enough resources to live an austere life for maybe another decade. She was one of those afraid of the government taking over Medicare, yet she was a retired librarian who drew a paycheck from the state for 15 years, and who had retirement funds from the state but railed against government spending and programs!
I made sure to trash all of the RW books and crap before my RW sibs got to the apt and saved it all. :)

I saw her on cspan before the election she works for some organization I can't remember.
When she was on cspan she wanted full disclosure that she is Sherrod Brown's wife..She is a fighter too from what I saw in that appearance.

I am torn. I really want the Dems to filibuster the deal brokered by the WH, but I am also mindful of the millions of Americans dependent on unemployment insurance benefits. Americans are dealing with a world of hurt economically.
The way forward is truly a conundrum.

What they do have are votes. How did they get them?
When the 2000 coup happened I remember being told "How much harm can he do?" about Bush. Now you know. A weak Democrat can't fight those heartless LYING bastards. Particularly not when he's a liar himself.

21. That's why I think it was foolish to package tax cuts for the top 2% with UI |
|
Lumping it together and it all gets lost in Obama's deal.
Force the Republicans to argue that their tax cuts are fiscally responsible, every damn day, while blocking UI every day. This is our argument. Don't give it to them. We can define the argument. Before long, they'll extend UI retroactively, as they always have (been there before with this Congress).
And make them tell seniors every damn day, "You won't get yours, either, until the wealthiest 2% is taken care of." Neither of these are popular or envious positions. They will capitulate before too long.
We're paralyzed by fear. That gives them so much control over us.

25. Republicans want Gridlock? Give them gridlock! |
|
Edited on Wed Dec-08-10 07:00 PM by reformist2
All it takes is for 41 Democratic senators to filibuster the current proposal and force the taxes on the rich - and everyone else - to go up next year. It's high stakes poker, but I bet the Republicans cave in on this and agree to the middle class tax cut the Democrats wanted, and the Democrats will score their first victory of the new year. And if they don't cave, will the American people really stick with the Republicans, who out of spite wouldn't give the middle class a tax cut? Unthinkable!
