and the Republican party that shutdown the federal government because he made Newt sit in the back of Air Force One...

And they were pilloried for it

20. Actually, you're right
The premise in the thread is nonsense.

Furthermore, Newt thought it was a way of blackmailing Clinton into doing what the Republicans wanted. That was a more important reason that having a snit over the seating on Air Force One.

But Clinton didn't move and, again you're right, the Republicans were pilloried.

27. I don't want to speak for Emily
But I do miss our record surplus and even though we know he is flawed, I miss Bill.

I like our current President, but I know, now, how freaking crazy it is for a Democrat to occupy the White House.

17. Yeah, that comes in handy
when one lays off 200,000 federal employees

Since I took office, we have cut the federal deficit nearly in half. It is important that the people of the United States know that the United States now has proportionately the lowest government budget deficit of any large industrial nation. We have eliminated 200,000 positions from the federal bureaucracy since I took office. Our federal government is now the smallest percentage of the civilian work force it has been since 1933, before the New Deal. We have made enormous progress, and now we must finish the job.

23. Same old shit.
Can't wait to see Obama's list of over simplified failures. Oh wait, no need for the drivel - his list will include things like the following:

Taking down SS
Destroying Medicare
Prisoners left for life at Gitmo
Three/Four Wars
Total destruction of the middle class
etc.

7. That was over the debt ceiling.
It would do nothing for unemployment extensions nor tax cuts.

The Republicans already have their tax cuts. If it gets shot down it is the Democrats problem.

My crazy right winger Republican temporary Representative says he will vote for the Obama deal.

13. Do we really?
First, there was indeed a dot-com boom/bust in the late 90s, but I thought the housing bubble came after that.

But to the larger point--are you saying that even if Al Gore had become president, the economy would eventually have collapsed like it did in 2008?

25. Housing Bubble
started in my area the second (okay, that's an exaggeration- it was more like 2 months) after he announced the No Capital Gains Tax on RE sales. That was around 1996.

It was devastating for the Middle Class in my area.

But greeeat! for the dot com millionaires who immediately began flipping properties for ever-increasing dollar amounts.

16. Actually I thought our economy was good because of the high tech bubble
and didn't we bomb Bosnia and ignore what was happening in Rwanda during the Clinton administration? We may have had the "highest median income in history" but what did NAFTA do to people in Mexico? Are we all that matters? The truth is that every presidency has its pluses and its minuses and honestly the hyper-criticism of Obama is becoming more than ridiculous. It's one thing to engage in a conversation and even to passionately hold a belief and to express it but honestly what I see here on DU more and more is a blind unwillingness to see anything good in Obama and disrespectful, hateful attacks that I might expect from the right but not here. Do we really think the world is so simple that all one man has to do is come into office and suddenly everything is going to be not just better but perfect and that the definition of perfect will be exactly as we individually define it? I see very little that I like here anymore... ...

Glass-Steagall for once and for all.

The one piece of legislation that kept the banks from going insane with bad loans. Passed during the Great Depression to ensure such insanity woud never ever happen again.

Didn't take long after Clinton Admin. got rid of G-S to get us into the next Great Depression.

Also got rid of the Capital Gains tax on RE profits. That, and repealing G-S led us into the most disgusting RE Bubble the world's ever seen.

Yeah, Bill Clinton was an awesome Prez.
