This is Todd’s story.
It was sunny day in Omaha, Nebraska on April 18, 1974. 13-year-old Todd Bequette got off the school bus like any other day. However, this day would change his life forever as he knew it.
A man approached Todd and asked if he wanted a free mini-bike. At first he told the man no, as he was taught just like most kids about the dangers of strangers. However, the man persisted and then stated that they would take it to his house and ask his parents. If his parents didn’t approve, then he couldn’t have the bike. If they did, he would get the free mini-bike.
Todd stated that as soon as he spoke about talking to his parents, he said ok and got into the car with the man soon to be known to him as Terry Roy Holman.
From there Todd was taken to a motel. Holman told him that the mini-bike was in the closet. Todd walked around the corner to find it, and his heart dropped to the pit of his stomach when he discovered no mini-bike but instead a gun in his face. He was told to get down on the ground. He was raped the first night.
From there they traveled to Iowa.
Todd stated Terry Roy Holman raped him repeatedly. Holman would tell him, “You are mine. I can do anything I want to you and you enjoy it don’t you?”. If Todd wouldn’t answer that he did, he was beaten.
Todd tried several times to escape but was always caught. In one instance Terry Roy Holman put a gun to Todd’s face and said, “if you run, I will shoot you”. He then lowered the gun and shot three shots between Todd’s legs.
Todd was also constantly tied up and drugged with Valium and sleeping pills to prevent his escape. Holman used sleep deprivation and fear to keep Todd under his control and according to Todd, would wake him up abruptly and make him call him “Dad”. The psychological effects were taking its toll.
Todd claims Holman would choke him at times until he passed out. Holman was 350lbs. and ruthless in his demands. Eventually Holman’s tactics worked on Todd and Todd went into survival mode, letting Holman do whatever he wished to him and complied as much as possible to avoid beatings or being killed. Todd is deaf in one ear from the beatings he took from Holman. At times, Todd did not think he would make it.
