create a Ubuntu Live CD. You won't have to worry about viruses, malware, invisible botnet installs, or other nefarious attempts to turn your PC into a zombie. It's linux, and as such, is not vulnerable to bad juju that affects Windows. Also, the Ubuntu Live CD does not install to your hard drive. It runs from the CD, and does not alter your drive's contents in any way.

Don't know how to boot from a CD? Go here.

1. I have used LiveCD's for years. Aside from actually burning them they are very easy to use.
Knoppix, for instance, is a very user-friendly LiveCD.

In this context, a LiveCD allows you to browse websites without having to worry about getting viruses or anything like that and, as the OP said, nothing is installed onto your hard drive.

2. It also lets you browse without leaving traces on your PC.
When you go back into Windows, your PC doesn't even know you used it.

3. Don't forget your seven proxies
(he said only half jokingly...)

Oh, and if you're *really* paranoid, you can unplug your hard drive's power before booting the CD. (Shut the box down first, doofus!)
