Man tries to open door on flight from San Jose
by Henry K. Lee, San Francisco Chronicle

(12-08) 13:55 PST SAN JOSE -- A possibly suicidal man tried to open the cabin door of a Continental Airlines flight traveling from San Jose to Houston today, forcing the plane to divert to Albuquerque, N.M., officials said.

The man, whose name was not released, was on Continental Flight 1576 when he tried to open a door of the Boeing 737, authorities said. None of the 133 passengers or six crew members was hurt.

The pilot contacted air traffic controllers and declared an emergency, and the plane diverted to Albuquerque International Sunport at about 9:30 a.m. local time, said airport spokesman Dan Jiron.

Airport police officers detained the passenger and contacted the FBI, Jiron said.

2. Only the Hulk could open those doors at altitude
Difference between internal and external air pressure holds them quit tight.

5. With hands tied behind the back.
Otherwise how do we know someone won't use their hands to open the door?

8. They will put us under general anesthetic eventually
Actually, that might improve the airline experience.

10. I doubt that.
They don't want to do anything to make our experience better. My scenario below is probably already in the planning stages in some TSA board room now. It just seems so likely at this point.

9. Seat?
Edited on Thu Dec-09-10 10:01 AM by Jamastiene
Soon, the only way we'll be allowed to fly is strapped to a hand truck and forced to wear a full Hannibal Lecter suit. Maybe I shouldn't give them any ideas. They can probably fit more people in the planes standing up than in seats. If they hear that idea, the pupils of their eyes will turn into dollar signs and then we will all get the Hannibal Lecter treatment, but only after they give us anal probes, grope us, take naked pictures of us, and call in the bomb squad to detonate all tampon strings.

13. As an airline employee I find your comments offensive
The airlines are not responsible for the indignities imposed on the traveling public by the US Government.

Perhaps you'd like to tell us what sector of the market you work in so I can make broad, deprecating statements?

6. From the article:
The man was treated at Albuquerque for numerous lacerations and bruises he suffered as fellow passengers opened several cans of whupass and slathered the contents about his person.

OK it didn't say that but it should have. Bet I could get rich and famous writing articles like this.
