Frat boy BULLSHIT from Tucker Carlson (sends college student undercover with food stamps)

Tucker Carlson, Class(less) Act

By karoli

http://crooksandliars.com/karoli/tucker-carlson-classless-act

In his race to the very bottom, media hack Tucker Carlson goes lower, sending a college student undercover to see what he can buy with food stamps:

For creative college students planning a party, the possibilities are endless. Here are some things you can buy with food stamps without breaking the law or the bank:

* Limes for Coronas or other Mexican beers
* Soda water or tonic water for mixed drinks
* Coke for Jack and Cokes
* Drink mixers, as long they have an FDA nutrition label on them and don’t have alcohol in them
* Appetizers from the frozen food section
* Chips, salsa, cheese, and crackers
* Red Bull for Jager-bombs
* Jell-O to make Jell-O shots
* Any other snack product
* Gatorade for nursing the next day’s hangover
* Egg Nog (for Egg Nog and Brandy mixed drinks during the holidays)

What Bob Cesca and John Cole said. Can't imagine saying it any better.

Worst Person in the Goddamn World

Matthew Boyle from Tucker Carlson's hackish news blog The Daily Caller, for conducting a super excellent investigation into stuff you can buy with food stamps.

Because as we all know, those evil "welfare queens" are totally fucking the economy and leaning their low budget boots on the throats of wealthy, conservative Americans.

(Also, I've been a horrible blogger this week, but it's only because I've been insanely busy. Please don't hate me. However, I've been tearing it up on Twitter, so that's something.)

From the “Young Bucks With T-Bones” Files

by John Cole

http://www.balloon-juice.com/2010/12/08/from-the-young-bucks-with-t-bones-files/

If you ever wondered how much of a douchebag Tucker Carlson is, wonder no more:

What can you buy with food stamps? Pretty much anything sold in a grocery store, other than tobacco, booze and hot food. To find out what that really means, I took my November stipend to Whole Foods, a pricey organic food emporium that is as much a yuppie metaphor as it is a supermarket.

My first stop was the seafood counter, where I found the thickest swordfish steak I could, which at $18.99 per pound also turned out to be the most expensive item in the department. Then I headed to the coffee section, where I dropped $11.99 for a pound of fresh roasted beans.

From there, the milk aisle, where $8 bought a half gallon of pure organic goat’s milk. Nearby was the cheese section, where I found a tiny wedge of fancy-looking cheese from some European city I’ve never heard of and threw it my cart.

Last I hit the produce section, where I discovered a small but tasty-looking container of Chanterelle mushrooms. Price? $13.99, plus tax.

At the checkout line, I whipped out my shiny new Electronic Benefits Transfer card and watched the cashier ring up my order. The total (minus the cheese, which I discarded at the last moment) came to $51.10. Not bad for a gourmet meal, especially since I wasn’t paying for it.

In this shocking report, we learn that if you lie about your economic situation, defraud the government, and receive food stamps, you can spend it all in one night on really expensive food. And the reason you can do that is BECAUSE YOU ARE LYING ABOUT YOUR ECONOMIC SITUATION AND WON’T NEED THE FOOD STAMPS TO EAT FOR THE NEXT FUCKING MONTH. People who actually need food stamps, however, won’t be doing this, because they need to make that small amount of money last for the entire month.

Thanks for the insight, Tucker. Fucking wingers. God I hate Republicans.

3. Heir to the Swanson fortune...oh, yeah. Calls were made.
Tucker Carlson is the elder son of Richard Warner Carlson, a former Los Angeles news anchor and U.S. ambassador to the Seychelles who was president of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and director of Voice of America. His mother is Patricia Caroline Swanson (born 1945), former wife of Howard Feldman and an heiress to the Swanson food-conglomerate fortune.

5. Hopefully
I reported him and submitted his links in the online form here - http://www.usda.gov/oig/hotline.htm I hope they do something about this.

It doesn't sound like he fully disclosed how his parents are paying his rent...

"You wouldn’t think I’d qualify. As a master’s student at American University and a part-time reporter for The Daily Caller, I don’t meet the traditional definition of a poor person, and in fact I’m not poor. But that didn’t matter to the District’s Department of Human Services. They approved me anyway.

I make $600 a month writing for TheDC and another $493 as a teaching assistant at AU. My rent is $1,365. The arrangement works because most of my rent and other expenses are covered under my student loans or paid by my parents (thanks, Mom and Dad). But because my official income is less than my rent, I qualify for a monthly handout."

That would have answered that. Nice waste of resources and I wonder if there wasn't fraud involved. Is it legal to use foodstamps when you are not in the program? Did tucker obtain them illegally?

Edited on Thu Dec-09-10 11:55 AM by Erose999
The operative is a grad student who lives off of student loans and daddy's money. But he didn't put that on his application.

The whole thing is just hack journalism of the same sort as BriteFart and O'Queefe. I think one of the other headlines on Fucker's site is about how something or other is supposed to vindicate BriteFart. Not likely, bowtie boy.

24. Limes... are an important source of vitamin C and can be used to make bad tap water a little more

palatable. Of course, people on foodstamps are drinking tap water because they aren't buying Mexican beer or expensive coffee or sodas and junk food.

None of these rightwing fratboy pukes like Fucker Carlson and James O'Queefe ever went through college without their rich daddies money and ever had to economize and live the way I've had to live.

I was on foodstamps for a while, and I applied the legal way. They require a LOT more documentation than Fucker Carlson's little lackey used. I could have gotten them easily if I would have LIED like he did.

I really hope they bust him. His article is basically a confession to a crime.

22. That provision already exists, sort of.
On the DC combined application for benefits form, it states in the "general rules" section that anyone who lies or gives false information can not only lose their benefits, but also be fined and go to prison. The "food stamp" section reiterates this, and specifies the possible length of a prison term as "up to 20 years."

It doesn't say, but I'm guessing that the fine would include at least restitution of any wrongfully received benefits. I know it works that way in Michigan, and paying back the $$ is mandatory even if approval of the benefits was in error and by no fault of the applicant.

I hope this jerk gets busted, and gets both a heavy fine and jail time.

33. So the ACTUAL shopping list for a holiday celebration was:
* Limes
* Soda water
* Coke
* Drink mixers, as long they have an FDA nutrition label on them and don’t have alcohol in them
* Appetizers from the frozen food section (including Swanson products, perhaps?)
* Chips, salsa, cheese, and crackers
* Red Bull
* Jell-O
* Any other snack product
* Gatorade
* Egg Nog

Aside from a slight miff at the Red Bull, I'm not seeing a real problem here. :shrug:

34. What Complete Nonsense
First of all, you can't lie about your economic situation and get food stamps unless you are being given cash money by someone that you are not married to or a dependent of and keeping it under your mattress. They check that stuff out.

Second, you aren't going to spend your monthly allotment of food stamps in swordfish steak, because that will be your one meal for the month, and most people don't like to starve.

And has for the theoretical use to which one puts what one buys...you could make that argument about any item in a food store.

Bread - to feed the squirrels in the park
Eggs - to throw at that annoying neighbor's front door
Crackers - to put cheese on for appetizers at the party
Cheap hamburger - tacos for the neighborhood Tex-Mex get-together
Lettuce, cheese, tomatoes - said tacos
Apples - fermenting for making hard cider or apple brandy
Oranges - putting in the Sangria

This is fun!
