Wal-Mart to end extra $1 an hour for Sunday work
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. will stop paying new hires an extra $1 an hour for Sunday shifts at its U.S. stores beginning in January.

The world's biggest retailer will stop the extra pay at its Walmart and Sam's Club locations. The move will not affect distribution center workers.

Wal-Mart has 1.4 million U.S. employees and 2.1 million workers in 8,000 stores worldwide.

Spokesman Greg Rossiter said Wednesday that the change will only apply to employees hired after Jan. 1 and not its existing work force. Employees in Rhode Island and Massachusetts are also not affected because state laws guarantee them 1.5 times their hourly rate for working on Sundays.

4. Probably a pre-emptive strike since they're likely to be on the hook
for megabucks if and when the class action discrimination suit goes forward.

11. Where's the "family values" crowd on this one? If employees can't go to church
with their families on Sunday, shouldn't Wal-Mart offer them that compensation, at least?

At the risk of repeating myself--fuck Wal-Mart all to hell.

13. No no, you're thinking wrong
This is God's punishment for their actually having the nerve to work on "the lord's day". Oh, and doesn't matter if you needed that money...if you prayed harder, given 50% of your income to the church, and been born to the right family, you wouldn't have those problems! :sarcasm:

16. I refuse to set foot in that place unless I absolutely have to.
The way they treat their employees is a joke. So is the way they treat the communities they move into.
