When you are the president and relying on the opposition party to pass your "deal"
You should recognize that you are doing something wrong.

Yet apparently Obama doesn't get that. He is going to, at least in the Senate, probably get the majority of votes for his tax cut deal from Republicans. Seriously now, just how fucked up is that?

This should be an indication of how off track he is. Sadly, this doesn't seem to phase him. Worse yet, this seems to be setting a precedent for how he will conduct his legislative forays in the future, no relying on his own party, but instead, relying on the opposition.

What does this say about Obama, about the state of the Democratic party? What does it mean for the left, do we have any "fierce advocates" left in DC?

These are questions that we need to ask, and answer. Frankly, if a Democratic president is going to consort with and rely upon the opposition to ram his legislative agenda through, I simply can't support him. I can't support a DINO, especially one who is so far off track and off the mark.

What say you?

2. A Democratic president has no business putting his signature on a plan that will gut Social Security

... But in the long run, is Obama capable of winning the battles with the Republicans that this temporary agreement sets up? By expanding the deficit, it will make it easier for the Republicans to push sharp cuts in all manner of domestic programs, including Medicare and Social Security. This accord will not stop Republicans from expounding regularly on "the Obama deficit" or from trying to box him in again on the tax cuts...

3. K&R
Exactly what I think too. If this tax deal ends up passing by mostly republican support, it will be an embarrassment and a sign of how bankrupt the deal really is to the Democratic party.
