If Wikileaks takes down Twitter, I will..... |
|
...not be affected. I don't really even know what a Twitter is. To me, a Twitter Tweet sounds like something someone with a lisp says on Oct.31st. I don't even text....don't know how....don't want to. To me, a phone is something to make phone calls on and nothing more. I really wish cell phones were never invented. I know this new technology is vital to some/most? folks, but, I guess I liked it when we weren't slaves to phone calls. About the only time I use the cell phone is when I go to the store and the wife calls to add something to the list. It's really not worth it to me. Call me old fashioned, just don't call me on a cell phone! I get more messages from the phone company than I get phone calls!

I refuse to tweet or facebook out of principle, privacy concerns, and not wanting to waste time. However, I do text and love using the apps on my phone.

|
I don't even have a stupid fucking TeeVee.
I do need my cell phone though. No getting around it.

...but I don't FAcebook, My Space, or any other social networking. I am retired and fish a lot. Being out on the lake on a nice day, no phone, no tevee, is my heaven! I now have the means to buy pretty much anything I want, and all I want is to be left alone!

Got my cel so I'd be able to call for help in an emergency...but it's useful and handy for other stuff too.
Got lots of other stuff to occupy my time...don't have TIME for Facebook/Farmville/Twitter/TV...
Do appreciate my computer, cel, and CD/tape player however... I like my electronics, just don't want to feel inundated by them or become too dependent.
Think it was Garrison Keillor :loveya: pointed out that Lindbergh flew across the whole damn ATLANTIC OCEAN without even a radio for communication... and today people can't get through the produce section of the grocery store without a cell phone.

4. Yeah, I don't go on Twitter or use Facebook either. I've tried texting, but |
|
by the time I get a message written, I could've called, talked to the person, hung up, gone to the bathroom, and taken the dogs outside.

I don't know what twitter or a tweet is either.
Cell phones I'm a recent convert, but I still only rarely use it. But it is handy to carry around in case you need to make or get a phone call.

7. I definitely appreciate and use my cellphone, |
|
but I rarely text. I use it to talk. I don't want to have to put on my reading glasses just to have a conversation!

It's bad enough that I need my hands to talk; I don't want to need glasses to listen!

9. Ha! Never thought about that! |

It's bad enough having to scramble looking for a pair of glasses so you can see the damned Tevee remote, read the newspaper or a menu. GEtting old sucks. I have about ten pairs of glasses I get at the dollar store, varying strengths, scattered about the house so I can read if I need to. My long range vision is fine, ie watching TV, driving, etc., it's just those damned little bitty letters people use!

Sounds like my house...
same thing. Cheapo readers all over the place
plus the ones I have hanging around my neck all day long.
Have to wear them while on my laptop, and even then sometimes I have to enlarge the text size.
But I can spot a falling leaf in the yard 100 feet away

I spotted a deer at the edge of a wooded area yesterday about 300 yds away while driving, but a phone book is useless without glasses. Thank god for those dollar store glasses!

I don't need them to drive etc. but I have prescription glasses to read. I actually have bifocal reading glasses. The top is for computer monitor distance and the bottom is for other reading.

13. Yep. text to me has limited uses. If you have 12 people to meet and you |
|
change the time a half hour you can send it out to everyone all at once and they have it written down so they can refer to it later.
But my cell is about 99% talk for me. My daughter, on the other hand, has running text conversations wiyh multiple people throughout the evening. So it's all what you are used to I guess, and how long your arms are :)

I occasionally use it when it's appropriate but for a direct one on one conversation I prefer to talk. I even use my mouth to dial these days. Voice dialing is a real convenience. I can dial and talk with no glasses!

10. I have a cell phone, but |
|
I have texting turned off and I have 5000 roll over minutes I use it so seldom. I signed up for Twitter, found it useless and have never used it. I don't do any social networking site. I have a TV, but no connection. I use it solely for DVDs. E-mail is my lifeline, though.

I don't Twitter and have no real interest...but know those who live by their Tweets, so in their world this is a big thing. In the world I deal with...not so much. The same goes for Wikileaks. The site has provided some very interesting information but the media circus surrounding it has clouded the messages it has released. The more its about Assange or "cyber war" the less its about the contents of those cables and other revelations. On DU this is a big deal, when I walk out the door in a little bit and confront the real world, few if any know what Wikileaks is. The rest sounds more like a video game.

a cocktail party.
Lots of people hanging around talking about shit that doesn't really matter.
Small talk...I'm not real good at it.

26. I don't think they said anything about Wikileaks taking down Twitter. |

They may have said something about the group Anonymous possibly taking down Twitter, but Anonymous is not Wikileaks.
I'm not aware of Wikileaks ever taking down a website.

17. What in tarnation do we need all these new-fangled contraptions for, anyhow? |
|
And what do these teenagers WANT?
Just kidding. I don't tweet and I had my facebook account deleted several months ago. But you and I remind me sort of of my late dad, who refused to learn how to program a VCR.
Now I understand. Now I no longer laugh at him. There comes a time when enough is enough! Having said that, however, I am secretly lusting after an iPad, or something like it.
Change. Nothing but change. Hold still, dammit!

It would have been too obvious to use stuff like "I don't use electricity or fire." or "I eat all my roadkill raw."
PS. It was your use of "the wife" that gave you away.
Good one.

24. Do you mean Anonymous? I don't think they'll take down twitter, because they communicate a lot on it |
|
I've been following some tweets from the people carrying out the "Operation Payback" and they seem to organize at least partly on twitter. It wouldn't help them to bring the site down.
