Like in the story that you linked I read it with a Coventry accent since it, to me, breathed a bit of medical science in the article. Think of a female Clive Owen.
But if I were reading a financial story, I would go with an educated Westminster accent. Think of Christopher Lee.
Sports stories I would read with more of a whimsical accent. Think of any character from the Full Montey or Melanie Brown. Either accent will work.
Any story that is like an Access Hollywood story, I would go with a rough Cockney accent. Think Bob Hoskins.
