It's time to call them what they are, 'Obama's tax cuts for the rich'. |
|
The bill does nothing for those that have jobs. It does nothing for those that want jobs. It does nothing for the working poor. It hurts social security. It increases our debt for no reason. It makes Obama weaker. It make the Republicans happy. It demoralizes the left. It does nothing for the 99ers.
All for getting unemployment insurance; which could have been gotten by not giving in to the evil Republicans.
It's just sad.

11. Middle & lower-class tax cuts account for $300-B in this bill. |
|
Edited on Thu Dec-09-10 12:04 PM by stopbush
Rich person cuts account for $140-B.
If the tax rates go back to Clinton-era rates, the poorest people who pay fed taxes will see their rate jump 50%, from 10% to 15%.
If tax cuts for the rich are the poison pill that needs to be swallowed to give continued relief to the poor and the middle class, then I think we need to swallow that pill.
Or do you think the poor should just suck it up and live with a 50% increase in their taxes starting Jan. 1?
BTW - how does the bill "do nothing for those with jobs" and the "working poor" when a person making, say, $20k a year will see his taxes go from $2,000 a year to $3,000 a year if the rates go back to the Clinton rates? The bill actually gives that person $1,000 more a year in their pocket than they'd have if the tax cuts expire.
There's also an increase in the Earned Income Tax Credit, a credit that actually sends a check to low-wage earners with children. They will be getting more $ back from the government under this bill.

Your argument seems to be "I didn't make him weak, but I do want to make him weaker."
BTW, I think there's a big difference in maintaining criticism and coming up with ways to ensure his defeat. Be opposed to the policy, but coming up with zingers is even more counter-productive.

If that were the case, then your title would be Obama's federal income tax cuts for everyone, but also the elimination of 2% of payroll tax, Making Work Pay, increasing EITC....
He is weak and your misleading title is making it worse.

The Republicans priorities (extending the Bush tax cuts for the rich and cutting the estate tax), meanwhile, will cost $133 billion... http://thinkprogress.org/2010/12/07/tax-priorities/

37. I sympathize - I really do |

But two compelling things to me - one, unemployment benefits. Two, I also believe we need another infusion of cash into a fragile economy, this is a stimulus through tax breaks, primarily to lower and middle income people.
There are better ways to do it, but it's a reasonable deal.
