Goodbye Social Security... I had fun paying into you |
|
OK, so President Obama creates a Deficit Reduction task force, and THEN gives 700 Billion Dollars in tax cuts to people who don't need them. Can anybody else see where this is going? We are so screwed.

1. I have to guess that the president also sees where this is going... |
|
My question: "Why is it okay with him?"

2. A bigger indicator of self-destruction is the 2% payroll tax 'holiday' |
|
They will use this defunding of SS/Medicare to 'prove' that they system is unsustainable.

3. Yes. This is truly astounding. I've been in a daze the past 2 days |
|
trying to understand how this could have happened. It's Nixon goes to China for Obama. The payroll tax holiday will annihilate Social Security. All the republicans say they will never allow it to expire, putting the program with 2.6 trillion in surplus in serious financial trouble. Once it is successfully weakened, they will chop it off at the knees. I am so sad. I will probably live in abject poverty as a senior and there's not much I can do to stop that.

6. We expected a Centrist when we elected Obama. We got a Rightist. |
|
Disabling Social Security, expanding aggressive wars, continuing rendition and not restoring Habeas Corpus is NOT Centrist.
The payroll tax holiday is the first stealth move to enact the deficit commission's advice.

11. Agreed. It is what it is, we need to do the write-off and move beyond our disappointment. |
|
Progressives need to start fighting the neoliberal policies no matter who is promoting them.

12. That's right - it's about policies, not politicians. I actually feel a lot better... |
|
...having accepted it - much better than wasting energy on disappointment or confusion.
We'll need all the energy we can get to fight what's coming next!

10. He should have let it all expire |
|
and just get the unemployment benefits, which would have gone through as even the GOP couldn't face going home at Christmas to hearing about that. Republicans are unemployed too! Would have been a good time to have a little talk with the American people about deficit reduction and how this would be a head start on what will need to be done. He was the one who created the commission so he is well aware of what was in that report. They are coming for everything we got, this was just a little candy first.

My tax liability this year will be lower simply because I have less income. My clients are unemployed and either slow-paying or no-paying. Many potential customers have been eliminated by rampant unemployment. My wife didn't get a bonus this year, despite working many extra hours. In a way, we've gotten a tax cut. I'd rather have the income.
Let the tax cuts expire. For many of us, it won't make a difference, until we start getting income again.

19. I pasted this is as the second paragraph. |
|
Social Security has nothing to do with the debt, nothing. Social Security only needs some fine tuning. Why? Because of all the job losses cause by shipping our Living Wage Jobs overseas. Our economy will never recover without those Living Wage Jobs being in this country along with the discretionary spending and the local, state and federal taxes and they generated. Never.
