101 month to-date
93 KIA Iraq; 2 MIA
6 KIA Afghanistan

projects to 128 for the month (120 Iraq)
that would be the most since Nov '04.

This chart is only Iraq. "Mission Accomplished" was May 1, '03. There were 139 US fatalities in Iraq when they turned that carrier so that the skyline of San Diego would not be looming in the background when the decider landed after his 30 mile ride. As of this writing there are 3444.

2. Please note, the two highest months were during the "Fallujah" offensive.
Does anyone remember what happened in Fallujah in April of 2003?

Fallujah wanted to be left alone, our soldiers rolled in after the statue of Saddam came down, Fallujah was a town even Saddam left alone.

Our soldiers rolled into town mid-April and decided to set up shop in an elementary school. The citizens of Fallujah decided to hold a peaceful march in protest after their requests for our soldiers to quit the school had been refused. Roll tape, there is a peaceful march, our gung ho soldiers fire into the crowd and the rest is history.

I told my s/o that day that Fallujah would be leveled before it was ever through. The die was cast.

How would you feel if you had been a resident of that suburb here in the good ole USofA? You were glad your oppressor was gone and you just wanted to see your kids back in school?

It is really all just so dammed sad.

I know that my s/o and I would be labeled insurgents, especially after we had lost a relative or two that day, or maybe even just a neighbor or an acquaintance. What about you?

THIS HAS JUST GOT TO STOP!

Bring our troops home now and don't send another single one over.

4. That trend is a disaster
interesting how it parallels the far higher Iraqi deaths from "Coalition" action, with a slight drop in 2005-06. I hadn't realised how bad the last 9 months had been: maybe this is why October seemed the moment the wheels started coming off the whole enterprise. It's been downhill all the way, and it isn't looking any brighter.

that's why I started calculating the 6-month average (if I did eight it would be even more dramatic - Oct is not in it)

the OVERALL average doesn't show the recent uptick because all those low early months dilute it

And the typical feb/mar drop obscured the massive uptick since Oct. THIS year the "drop" only went down to 2 or more times the level of previous years. And yet the press was breathlessly reporting in feb/mar that the numbers were down from december (at that point the third highest month ever)

7. yeah, we can expect them to dither well into oct before
drawing any conclusions, which are likely to be "gee, there is a hint of success; we need another six months to see...)

so thats likely to be 400 or more additional KIA and then no change whatsoever
